'Evening all! A stinking hot day here in Oz, and about bloody time too. It's 7:22pm and 37C (98.6F) as I type this, and I'm in my element - I love hot weather!

Hot weather deserves a cold beer, and today's coldie is G.O.A.T, by Black Hops Brewing, based on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It teetered on the edge of that shampoo-like quality I perceive from too much Mosaic (I think) but in this weather, I'd have drunk it no matter what!

Here's to a great day no matter where, or how hot or cold, you are.

    Cheers!

On my first journey to Australia, I connected in Sydney to Adelaide, my final destination. (January1999) I first entered Australia within the cocoon of Sydney's airport and had no real "outdoor" contact at first. I had a few beers and strong coffees (love those airport kiosks- black, white, ect.) The cops were armed with automatic rifles, I noticed. Then I met The Continent in Adelaide on getting off of the connecting flight. The jet was out on the tarmac and had a front and rear exit. I went out the back onto the earth and was met with a blast of very hot air. It was over 100F and it was hot even for the season. I rented a car, bought some beer then went to the hotel and slept. It was very hot the entire journey. I know why the Aussies love beer for sure. I loved Australia, particularly West Australia south of Perth. Cheers ,Travelogue out..........

Back to the Minhas advent beers after a long night of work, since I went out of town for a bit, and surprisingly this Pumpkin Spice Ale is one of the best out of the pack so far!

G’day (isn’t that the more “uneducated” way of greeting someone in OZ?) Az, and thanks for kicking things off. While I love @dcotom openers to those threads it’s about fair we let him sleep a bit instead.

I am drinking the last Delirium from that haul from last Christmas. And it’s a red, berries one. It’s about spot on and good.

    Cheers!

    Brussels, I love you:

First time drinking this local beer in Northern (Honshu) Japan. In tasting it I was thinking of an extra Pilsner (stronger in ABV, blanking on the term that is used). It's quite hoppy with some sweetness and a bit boozy for a German lager. The website claims its Dortmunder Export style. I'll just say it's pretty darn tasty. A local recommended the beer and it's worth checking out if you find yourself in this neck of the woods in beautiful Iwate.

I felt the same way the first time I got off a plane in Darwin when the oppressive tropical heat and humidity almost knocked me to my knees - and I was in an air-conditioned terminal!

There's an ad for Canadian Club premixed spirits on tv at the moment and the catch line is "who made beer the king of summer?". Well, I reckon the heat and humidity did!

    Cheers

Preferably followed with "mate", it's the perfect all-round greeting! I've said it to the Prime Minister and I've said it to the local garbo. They're all me mates!

    Cheers!

I’d assume the former one, Scott? Not Albanese?

Not looking to turn this to politics, only wondering. Yeah, G’day is common greetings over there and not that much offensive. It’s even friendly and welcoming.

My Dad worked with and trained a host of Aussies and Kiwis leading up to the invasion at Leyte Bay in The Philippines. He said these guys were the best soldiers that he fought with. He brought all of his guys out alive, but many were wounded. Leyte Bay is still the largest air, land, and naval invasion in history. He definitely knew how to speak Australian!

My wife and I were supposed to go on a long expedition of Tohoku in 2020, exploring all the culinary gems of the area but as we all know Japan shut its borders due to the pandemic and we never did it. I don't think we had Iwate on our itinerary but I could be wrong. I hope you are enjoying your time and staying warm. I know that Aomori is the snowiest place on earth, so Iwate cannot be that far behind.

Nah, John Howard, PM in the 90s and 00s. I worked at Parliament House in Canberra at the time.

"G'day" is not offensive in the slightest, so don't ever be afraid to say it to an Aussie!

    Cheers!

Those guys were truly brave. Some of the worst urban fighting of the war in Manilla, too.

Your Old Man would have certainly learned how to swear going through that shoulder-to-shoulder with some Aussies and Kiwis!

    Cheers!

Good day BAs! Thanks @AzfromOz for starting today's thread! Looks like the morning regulars albeit a bit early today. When my son was playing minor league baseball, every time the batter would allow a pitch to go by, all the parents would yell "Good eye". I frequently chuckled - that was when we loved "Crocodile Dundee".
And @rgordon, my dad fought in New Guinea and the Philippines and NEVER talked about it.

Today's New Breakfast Beer isn't technically a new beer - I've had one previously but never reviewed it until now:

Disappointing. Even the rye barrels couldn't save it, since there's no rye flavors other than a slight earthiness. Maybe the dating (Drink by 23SEP26) is optimistic. Rating 4.16, rDev -4.8%

Seems to be true of many veterans up until today, and more recent conflict like Astan or Iraq (whatever else wars, too).

I knew a couple of fellas and friends that fought there and I was quite aware that it wasn’t a good call to ask them too much about it. My only question must have been if they were doing good now, without the PTSD syndromes from seeing horrors and killings etc.

My father managed to not go fight in Algeria, but my great uncles did, and they only talked about it timidly by the end of their lives.

Well before, a great-grandpa on maternal side fought and was wounded in Verdun in 1916. I didn’t know him as he passed in the 1960s but that was certainly a painful experience both physically and mentally.

[IMG] Good morning all, I am loving this glass of juice. Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned on 12/14/22. Pours a very hazy orange, with a finger sticky off white head that leaves thin streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is tangerine, peach, mango, passionfruit, and apricot. 4.75

Taste follows tangerine, mango, peach, passionfruit, and apricot. 4.75

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 6.8% it is loaded with flavor but easy going down. 45

Overall this one is rather spectacular. I highly recommend it extra juicy. 4.75 Cheers all.

Good Day BAs! A warmer 44° walk with the dogs, but breeze made it feel like 39°. The dogs didn’t mind, and neither did I…home now having my first cup of coffee - KBS:

Bottled 9/13/22. Poured at 52°. Always hits the spot. The sun is out and we should warm back up into our normal mid 60s today…I’ll uncover the shrubs and let them soak up some sunshine today. Cheers and have a terrific Tuesday y’all!

Ah, sorry for ranting a bit too much about war earlier. Back to beer, Paix Dieu translate roughly to “God’s truce”. It’s a Belgian tripel this time in a 750ml bomber at 10% and I intend to drink it in a sitting. Needless to say, my car isn’t moving anywhere soon.

The specificity of this one is to be brewed only during the Full Moon, which explain this pretty and neat label too.

    Cheers!

This song is over twenty years old but very well put together. French R’N’B of the time; singer is laid back, song is heartfelt albeit in French he sings some sentences in English too.
