What beer are you drinking now? #3722

Baeren Beer The Day from Iwate, northern Japan (Honshu). When I grabbed it I thought it was a red ale. In fact it is a Red Lager which is doing a good job of tasting something like a red ale. It's hoppy up front and then a wave of malt flavor flows in with a lingering sweetness. There's some fruity flavors going on too, perhaps yeast driven. It's not an everyday drinker for me, but quite pleasant if you want a malty sipping lager.

Bottled 11/10/22. Poured at 56°. Bright sunny day on tap that should hit the low 70s - our normal “winter”. I’ve lots of “honey dos” around the house and in the garage…taking down the Xmas tree May be first up. Cheers and have a great day y’all!

Shared this with a few friends last night but didn't finish it so starting the day strong!

 

Last of the mixed four pack that was gifted to me. It would appear that I saved the best for last, one of if not the best Baltic Porters I've ever tried.

 

The beer that convinced me to spend money on craft beer. Amazing that it's now a "shelf turd" as opposed to when I would have to search for more than a bottle or two. So nice to be able to pick it up and drink it whenever it pleases me.

Volfas Engelman - Balta Pinta (Hefe)

For those of us who follow European basketball, the city of Kaunas is a special place where the sport is worshiped like very few other places in the world. When I saw that this was made there I simply had to buy it, even though I typically don't like hefeweizens. Insane amounts of banana and clove, but with a lingering bitterness. I bet this drinks nicely in the summer.

Pretty sunrise this morning

 

This was the gateway beer for me too. Somewhere in the 2016 - 2017 range I tried this and it blew me away, which sent me down the crazy craft beer rabbit hole that I'm still in. I bought way too much KBS in the 2017 - 2020 timeframe and still have a bunch of it left. Trying to drink my way through it and other older beers in my cellar as best I can. Crazy that KBS is so easy to get now given how hard it was just ~5 years ago.
