I’m scheduled to be in Los Angeles for a 6 days next week. Visit LA threads are a few years old, but learned a bunch reviewing these threads while planning, with additional input from Chicago peeps familiar with the LA scene.

I’m seeking input on the following:
    • Any additional Beer Bars or Breweries near where I’m staying beyond those listed below.
    • Any places which sell Alchemist (they skip past Chicago for their regular Denver drops and I believe semi-regular LA drops).
    • Any places with extensive Russian River (beyond PtE).
    • Anything else I should consider.
    Current plan:
    • 1/11-1/12: Hotel Miyako (Little Tokyo): If flight is on time, Lunch @ Philippe's, Highland Park, Homage + possibly Barbara’s Bar, Homebound and will check internet to see if Mumford is open either day (RIP).
    • 1/12-1/16: Staying in Torrance
      • Torrance: Yorkshire Square, Smog City, Monkish.
      • LB /SB: LB DTW Beachwood (likely two visits), Green Cheek SB, possibly Ballast Point.
      • Back North 1 Day: Santa Anita RT, Glenview Tap, back downtown?
      • Beyond Torrance: RIIP, Brouwerij West, Select Beer Store.
    • 1/16: Perhaps Venice / Santa Monica or somewhere else North, evening at FW Propagator until close, then LAX for 1/17 Red Eye Flight to Chicago.
I’m planning on public transportation and/or cabs at this point, though may rent a car for a day or two to perhaps hit hiking in the mountains or perhaps enjoy the area between LA and SD. Avoiding a car for the entire trip based on traffic, drinking, parking, etc..

Welcome all input. Would also meet BAs at Beachwood or elsewhere; PM if interested.

Your staying across the street from the Far Bar. A pretty cool spot kinda hidden. When in Little Tokyo area we would stop in for a pour just because it was one of my go to places back in the day.
If not for a pour or 2 maybe a night cap before calling it an evening.

Father’s Office has locations in Santa Monica and downtown, good food and they always have a solid beer list.
If you’re going out to Santa Anita, Ogopogo might be worth stopping into (not too far away from the track). Several good places in Pasadena too if you ventured that way.

Imho OC > LA > SD - SD has fallen off the map for me. Alpine is dead, the big 3 are dead, I never see AleSmith, Northpark is prominently Hazy’s… LA has Monkish, El Segundo, Smog City, Beachwood, Yorkshire Square, Homage (even though I haven’t tried their stuff)… But can either county really beat Green Cheek, Bottle Logic, The Bruery, Radiant, everywhere…with also OC Monkish, OC Beachwood… toss in Pizza Port San Clemente… Windsor’s tasting rooms… Noble Ale Works (lolz jk)

My favorite IPA brewery in California is Kern River. I suggest looking for their stuff too.

Very close to my hotel. Looks like a great option after the breweries. Thanks! Also noted Barbara's at the Brewery that I didn't mention in my first post.

    Will PM

Father's Office has many great beers on draft including a few Russian River that I will love to try. Also love ketchup is banned there!

I have Lucky Baldwin's as another recommended Pasadena beer stop (and Verdugo near Glendale) from prior year threads, so will add Ogopogo to the list. Thank you!

I've been to OC a few times and enjoyed my visits. This is my first chance at more than a day or two in LA, so trying to hit many of the places I haven't yet visited, plus ones I have enjoyed in the past (Beachwood, my favorite, plus return visits to FW and Monkish, which I like their Belgian styles). Really hoping Hops of Brixton, the only beer that matters, is on draft next week (was noted on 12/15).

I may be in the minority regarding AleSmith, but visiting their taproom, The Local and San Diego Tap Room are my favorites I try to hit at least twice each time in San Diego, plus Pure after visiting Balboa Park. Need to make it to Lost Abbey in a future trip. Really love the walkability in the downtown SD area.

Definitely enjoyed several Kern River pours in the past, mostly at The Local in SD. Wish they distributed to Las Vegas. Definitely want to visit next trip to Death Valley with an overnight in Kernville. Perhapsnext month during my Vegas trip, but holding off due with certain areas and roads due to bad flooding last year.

Really appreciate the great beer bar suggestions so far. Love hitting bars to get a wide range of breweries and styles. Hoping to run into a can or four pack of Heady Topper and possibly Focal Banger. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I may be in the minority here, but Father's Office is way over hyped. Burgers are just so so to me, and are like $20. A pour of Pliny? Sure in an 8oz glass for $12.
Library Ale House happy hour is the way to go if in Santa Monica.

Put this one in your notes for future Southern California trips. Bottlecraft Long Beach for a good selection of local beers with Russian River making appearances more than not. Surrounded by good food choices. I’m sure you are aware of Bottlecraft on your SD visits. Also all the Windsor venues now have sit down and drink taps. 20+ at all 3 locations. Windsor Brown has sandwiches. Heady and Bangers are gone. I wasn’t able to get any this time or the last 3 times.

Have not been in a while but perhaps Naja's is still a decent place to check out in Redondo Beach (not far from Torrance)?

Insanely expensive and the Culver City location smelled like sewage the last time I was there :+1:

Skip burgers in LA completely (except In N Out of course). I say go to Phillipe’s and then Highland Park after.

What? No. There are a ton of fantastic burgers here. Father's Office is just disappointing.

    In-N-Out is overrated too.

LAX In N Out is iconic. Love viewing it landing on the north runway. And the fly over SoFi is awesome.

I’ll take some recs please! I like in n out because it’s always quality and priced well. I’ve had too many $20 and up gastro burgers that have been disappointing. the funniest place I saw was called Burger She Wrote. I fall for gimmicks :stuck_out_tongue:

@RaulMondesi take back what you said about Alesmith.
Sure it isnt an overhyped IPA factory like the ones that popped up in OC recently, but they still have solid world class beers worth trying and revisiting.

They also have Anvil and Stave Membership pours for non members and thats a huge plus.

Golden State works out of Cofax's kitchen now and they've always been one of my favorites here. Moo's smoked brisket burger is my current favorite. It should not be nearly as good as it is. Jitlada's Jazz burger is really delicious but it's a bunless Thai version of a burger. It's got some heat to it.

Everson Royce, Burgers Never Say Die, Heavy Handed, and Amboy are all really solid as well. Spoon and Pork has a good chorizo burger but I don't think I've seen it on their menu lately. I also have a soft spot for Johnny Pastrami.
