Customer: what beers you have on tap

Waitress at (insert chain restaurant): “we have several craft beers what kind do you like?”

Customer: “I’ve been mostly drinking Roggenbier, Zwickelbier and Kvass, but lately I’ve had a real preference for well made Zoiglbier”

Waitress: (deer in headlights look at first, then proceeds to say, “we have Bud Light, Millier Light, Coors Light, Blue Moon, Sam Adams seasonal etc….).

Zoigl is wonderful. It’s not really a style – technically, there is not a huge amount of difference between it and other unfiltered lagers in the region – more a culture. I visited one of the Zoigl villages in 2019 and wrote about it here: https://refreshingbeer.blogspot.com/2021/01/long-overdue.html

Now if the waitress replied with that answer, I would be floored and ask her to marry me (even if my wife was dining with me…which she’d laugh anyway knowing the beer nerd that I am).

Lol….or you could say you would like a Busch light but only if it’s from a proper side pull tap or an Shock Top but only from a well maintained cask and hand pump. Otherwise you’ll have a water.

I vote we don't add this to the style database just yet. It took me long enough to find happoshu.

According to the article shared by the OP, it’s fair to say I’ve never had a proper one. Bonus is that it was mistaken for the Star of David ✡️ and forbidden during Third Reich Germany, before being made again even more popular due to those being finally defeated.

    Thanks, this is helpful.

Interesting article, every day you learn something new is a good day on Earth.

Don't think I'll every make it to Germany, but if I do this would be something to look for, indeed!

Stale old dark bread, usually rye + sugar, yeast and some raisins. It's a non-alcoholic soft beverage of Eastern Europe. Where kids and adults alike drink it, during the summer months.

There's even a cold summer soup, with kvass being the liquid, instead of water/broth/stock. With a bunch of diced raw vegetable, boiled diced potatoes, diced ham or kielbasa, fresh dill and a dollop of sour cream.
