    Happy Saturday everyone!

Summer holidays roll on down here at the bottom of the planet, and since the wife was off visiting her sister for the day I thought I'd pump some money into a couple of local breweries. Local being a relative term down here...

The first stop was Malt Man Brewing in a tiny town 40km away called Bodalla. Bodalla is famous for a brand of cheese in Australia and not much else. It sits astride the Princes Highway, the road that circumnavigates this wide brown land, and which glides past the front door of this innocuous-looking brewery that produces one of the best Kolsches I've had, and an excellent mid-strength ale. The legal vagaries of driving while under the influence of alcohol cut short what could've been a very satisfying day sampling the fruits of Malt Man's labours.

Next stop was Broulee Brewery, located in Broulee, another of the coastal towns that dots the New South Wales south coast. The brewery sits across the road from a long, wave-swept beach. It's crushingly crowded during the summer holidays and at one point the line for a beer threaded its way out of the brewery into the beer garden. Time for a bigger venue, methinks. They produce a very good XPA, which for mine should be called Australian Summer Ale, but the Beer Style Naming Committee forgot to invite me to their naming meeting, so XPA it is. Whatever it's called, it was good!

Finally, back on the deck at the father-in-laws, a mandarin-fruited sour called my name before a dusky walk on the beach and a final glance at the perfect coastal scenery as night pulls a curtain on the day's adventures and ushers in WBAYDN 3738.

    Cheers!

Lemme know when you start offering tickets for your New South Wales Beer Tours & Pub Crawl. I'd get a seat or two on the @AzfromOz Drop Bear Party Barge! Cheers!

Hard to measure up to the previous classic, but not bad.

Pace yourself, bro! If I were to start with two imperial stouts I'd be out for the rest of the day. Where does one go from there? :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a full day yesterday, haven't done this in a while, but went to a concert in downtown Houston. Which means I was pub crawling all over before the concert

First up, one of my favorite places in town. La Carafe, the oldest building, oldest bar in Houston. A few Yellow Roses out on the sidewalk seating, cause it is mostly candle lit inside and I gots to read ha.

Inside has a ton of cool old paintings, the big one in the middle is Gladis. Its an original from a Scottish painter. There is a reprint of this in the London Museum of Arts, no idea why the original is in a dive in downtown Houston, but I always like that story.

A look at downtown from the my sidewalk seat...

Next stops are to La Fisheria, which is an excellent Mexican seafood restaurant.

Sopa De Pulpo and a Saint Arnold Art Car. This is basically a thicker corn tortilla with octopus and port cracklins and other stuff, its a great snack.

Then the huge seafood tamale. This is one of the better dishes in town.

Last stop is Captain Foxheart and the Bad News Bar (oh yeah love that name). This is kind of like a speakeasy spot, its unmarked, upstairs behind some law offices ha. Inside is like going back int time.

They have a great rooftop patio. Ignore the Old Fashioned.

With another picture of downtown, but on Main St...why not

Then walking over to the concert. I went to the Hobby Center, which is a big concert hall in the Theater District (The Beatles once played here, and I think it was the only theater there at the time). Anyway, last night was the Parker Quartet. A fantastic classic string quartet. I hate taking pictures when the concert has started, so just some outside shots

I'll probably be back later this afternoon with beers and music...

Its a good book, I have become a big fan of Orhan Pamuk over the last few months. I found several of his older books at the used bookstore I go to and enjoyed them. Then I found out he just released this new book Nights of Plague. There are obvious allegories to Covid, but I really like the unique history of this made up island the Ottoman Empire once ruled. Which is detailed and fascinating. I'm only about 200 pages in, but I can't put it down so far.

Good day BAs! A chilly 48° walk with dogs earlier…morning chores done…it’s sunny but temps here will stay in the upper 40s today. Bracing for the temporary chill with Prairie’s Chocolate Noir:

Bottled 10/20/22. Poured at 57°. A BBA impy stout with cacao and vanilla. Boozy heat from 14.3%. Another winner from Prairie! Other than a quick trip to the grocery store later, a good day to stay at home. Cheers and have a great day y’all!
