Yeah, ditto! Wait until you see what I have to offer. HA!

I’d Like a Triple, Grandiose, Extra Sweet, Cook

Yeah, I get it, Evil Twin likes to make-up long names.

It pours thick like motor oil. Then there is a kerplunk! Not good, beer shouted a liquid, no chunk zone. The head builds after the pour and leave a continuous curtain of lace.

The aromas and flavors are sweet, macchiato cappuccino, chocolate, graham cracker, vanilla, pralines, hazelnuts, it just kept going, and going, and going.

Aside from kitchen fixtures, the adjuncts are aplenty. And it works, right up until chocolate pudding skin sticks to my lip.

    Seriously?!?
If anyone is ever curious what is meant by a Pastry Stout, this here my friends is the poster child you have been in search of.

Oh, and yeah, it is tasty. An abomination, but a tasty abomination none the less.

    BTW, the full name is…

I'd Like A Triple, Grandiose, Extra Sweet, Cookies N' Cream, Caramel Macchiato, Cappuccino Please.

    Not kidding.

I did a little side by side with an Old Rasputin and a the the bourbon barrel-aged version.
Both are dark brown with a slight tan head. The head disappears quickly from the regular version, but the barrel-aged version maintains a slight tan head.
The smell is similar, of coffee and chocolate with the barrel-aged version has a smell of bourbon.
Taste follows the smell, coffee and bakers chocolate with the barrel-aged version tasting of bourbon and cherries.
Feel is pretty identical, medium to full bodied with minimal carbonation.
I really enjoyed both of these, with the bourbon barrel-aged version a little better. At double the price, $ 9.99 vs $ 20.99 locally in Virginia, I would probably just drink more of the regular version.
    Cheers

The beer workout. I need to know more about this trend. It’s as foreign to me as @beergoot with shower beers.

Mortalis Kratos. Peanuts, cacao nibs, marshmallow. All living in harmony in my belly.

I wish I had more of the Thin Man BA Peanut Butter Awesome Jenkins to compare. I could buy one of the straggler magnums…that was so good, too.

...I'll tell you what...on our local TV there's a commercial for doing a 'sweaty January' instead of a 'dry January'...on top of that, my well-intentioned thought to have a 2 - 3 days a week of 0 -1 beer hasn't panned out...no, I've opted to get back to hitting the Peterson SFB (Space Force Base) fitness center three times a week, usually getting there about 5 - 5:30 AM and spending about two plus hours of cardio and weight training...

...this regimen has a few benefits: 1) getting my 66-year old ass to the gym, 2) burning beer (and whiskey) calories, 3) keeps me satisfied that I've started my day doing something useful, and 4) allowing me to sell the idea to myself that I can have more adult beverages later into the day (though nothing like my days of youth and yore)...

...of course, I often shower at the gym, but sometimes I come home to do that...seems to me like I haven't done a shower beer pic in a while...thanks for rejuvenating my interest in such things....:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hmmm. My “damp” January attempt is failing miserably, so you might be onto something with a sweaty January. I’m just getting fatter. @Resistance88 is drinking beer while he’s doing MMA. You’re working out at O dark 30… I have some thinking to do.

...thinking is for when you're burning calories on an eliptical machine or a stationary bicycle (or, perhaps practicing a knee from the double-collar tie or perfecting a guard pass if you're into MMA) and when you're sucking down some suds later in the day, basking in the glow knowing you've given those beer calories hell ...it's all symbiotic and healthy (or so I tell myself)...

There's no easy way to do it.
Sometimes i almost fold and drink a beer before Muay Thai or Lifting , but i check myself and think of the reward ( both the beer and results )

Times 8, a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout from Lervig and Stillwater. Great to see some big stouts coming out of Norway. This comes in at 16% ABV. Great beer.

Well so far Ive been doing more barleywines than imperial stouts this year, but im back with a stout tonight. This is a can courtesy of @FBarber who sent this to me from EPL winnings last season. Im way behind on consuming. But never fear @BigIronH and @Resistance88 I am going to redouble my efforts to reduce beer stash in my cellar starting this month. #cellaruary cant come soon enough!
Anyway, onto the beer. this is Pipeworks Double Vanilla Phantom Unicorn a 12.8% imperial stout featuring vanilla, lactose, and cacao nibs.

    onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. No date stamp on this one.
Beer pours a thick black coffee color with dense creamy head of 1.5 cm foaming up. This foam fades slowly to a sturdy edge layer and some spinning wisps on the surface. I also get a bit of dark stout snot that floats on the surface. scooped that out and away down the drain it goes.
Aroma is rich bourbon and some dark chocolate, some hints of roasted malts and a bit of vanilla on the background. But bourbon carries this one and the nose is more balanced than I anticipated from the description on the can.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with fairly gentle rolling carbonation. texture is a little sticky and does coat my lips after each sip from the glass. No more stout snot though which is good.
The flavor is roasted malt and dark chocolate which moves to some sweeter vanilla and bourbon notes and then strong dark chocolate on the finish. Some warming booze comes through on the swallow and the burps are all dark chocolate and hints of vanilla. Never any hop notes on this beer.
This is a tasty imperial stout that I am glad to have tried, could use a little more up front vanilla, but otherwise pretty solid! I am dropping the look just a bit due to stout snot.

My second to last bottle of last years Ralphius variants, this is the 2 year Cognac version.

I bought 4 varieties of Ralphius and this is one I was least excited about since I prefer brown liquor barrels to graped barrels by a wide margin. But I'll be damned, this is absolutely phenomenal. The base beer seems drier and more roasty than Ralphius generally is. From the extended oak time perhaps? Still somewhat fudgy, I get more cocoa powder and charred brown sugar. The Cognac addition immerses itself seamlessly with sweet raisins, mellow vinous grape skins, and a beautifully boozy exhale. Overall this is masterful, just a joy to drink.

I've really come to appreciate the qualities that cognac barrels can impart to a stout. My local bar had a cognac barrel stout from Pohala on last year and it was one of the best beers I've ever had
