I agree with your edit. The fact that there’s a separate thread for Belgian beers makes it the better choice. Cheers.

Courtesy of @Resistance88 El Segundo Standard Crude. It reminds me of a Voodoo Big Black Voodoo Daddy, with a barrel quality that seems to hit harder on the back than the front. It works for me!

    To Y'All Stout Lovers-
I like em big and filled with toffee,
Like em big that taste like coffee,
Ain't no stoppin', ain't no curbin'
Stouts done well in barreled bourbon.
Like em big and deeply malty,
    Stouts without are deeply faulty.
Give me big and give me dark,
Barrel aged like oak tree bark,
    Palate trashing bitter bite,
    Chewy opaque deep delight,
    Sweetly syrup pastry cake ones,
    Potent pepper must partake ones,
    Like em with espresso notes,
With burnt caramel get my votes,
    Molasses thick and cocoa twist,
    Boozy mud I can't resist,
Like em big and like em small,
In my glass, best of all
Filled to brim, there ain't no doubt
Ain't nothin' like a fuckin' stout!

Ive cross posted this with the extreme beer box big stouts thread. This is Adroit Theory Brewing Eat the Rich Imperial Stout. 12% beer, no adjuncts. pretty crazy can label art featuring a fine dose of cannibalism. Ill try to cross post each of the beers I review from the box for all the Impy Stout fiends on this thread !!

    onto my review:

I am sampling this 16 oz can at cellar temp as part of the Extreme Beer Box Big Stouts Box of 2023.
Pouring the beer into my snifter the beer pours a black coffee color with no light passing through the glass. A dense creamy beige head foams up about 1 cm and fades to a sturdy edge layer and some thins wisps on the surface. Some tight lacing appears during swirls or sips and slides down the side of the glass.
Aroma is very dark chocolate some roasted notes, charred wood and some unsweetened coffee. The charred notes and bittersweet dark chocolate dominate.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with soft texture and is slightly sticky on my lips with each sip.
Flavor is a hint of chocolate brownie, then is immediately roasted coffee and again some charred wood. Dark cacao chocolate lingers after each sip along with a bit of the charred note, not quite ashy on the finish. I dont get any hop characters in this beer and the ABV is amazingly well hidden.
This smells and tastes like an olde school imperial stout from before the days of adjuncts. No sweetness to be found here and Im sure the booze will catch up with me by the end of the can as there isnt any warmth or bite.
    Very nice imperial stout!

My brother (who lives in Charleston) sent me a can of this in a Christmas package. Westbrook Brewing's The Night Before. A gingerbread imperial stout, 11%abv. ln general, with food I am a big fan of strong ginger flavor, but in this beer it's a bit much for me. It owerpowers the roasted malt flavors. Full bodied.

Root Down Brewing (Phoenixville, PA) - Dippy Eggs with Scrapple. Named after breakfast food since it's a coffee stout. Also barrel aged in PA whiskey barrels. 10.5% abv. Very roasty, big aroma of black coffee and a bit of booze.
