This right here. They could make this all a lot less likely by doing what Hill does (or what they themselves even do for MJK) and simply charge for short bottle pours, maintaining custody of the bottle behind the bar (and limiting pours per person for the most limited bottles). But then that might spread some beers out to a lot more people, and we know what that does for hype.

I'm sure if they had more space, the entire process would be different, but it seems like letting the customers share their bottles on-site is just easier in that space.

There's a part of me that kinda likes that though - I've made some good friends by sharing bottles there. I think there's pros and cons to that serving style because (as I mentioned earlier), I've also been caught where nobody wanted to share and it's like, well, how bad do i want to try this? A full bottle's worth bad?

You didn’t answer my question. Is it allowed and or does SP not care?

I just want to know if I can roll in there with a some wine stops and a shipper and start filling it while I’m there.

Yes, going in with a wine stopper and styrofoam shipper and packing the bottles to go is allowed.

I’m a pretty easy going guy I guess. I wouldn’t have given a second thought to do the dude who said he brought vials in. It doesn’t affect me in the slightest, doesn’t affect other patrons, doesn’t hurt the business, and he isn’t making a profit. Walking out on a tab or snaking someone’s unattended bottle would be a scumbag move. I have a hard time classifying this as that even though I personally wouldn’t do it.

Side project releases their most hyped beer again after 5 years of waiting
Beer Advocate thread: 3 pages of discussion of a guy who makes Facebook memes and the ethics of small scale beer smuggling

As for OWK, I think they definitely recaptured the magic of the original. The beer is definitely a world class vanilla stout and I drank my 4oz incredibly fast even though vanilla is not my favorite stout adjunct. It definitely has less vanilla flavor than the Double barrel double vanilla despite there being more vanilla in it but that is not a negative as the vanilla melds more into it, making it more subtle but still a nice vanilla stout (I did love the DB vanilla though too and its excesses of vanilla). I love selling it in the bottle pours, but unlike MJK I can't see myself ever just getting 2oz because it was just so easy to drink and even after 4oz I felt like I could've gotten 6. Having OWK and MJK side by side was a real treat and hopefully lots of you get to try the beer because it is really something special and a great way to start the 10th anniversary.

On the OWK note: Does anyone recall what the availability was for B1? I remember several BAs driving from all over to get a bottle, but I can't recall if that was day 1 and there were only a few bottles (I think so?), or if it lasted for 1 day but that was it?

Seems like they made a lot more this time, which is a classy move. They know it's celebrated, so give the nerds what they want and let them celebrate and enjoy the beer. I, for one, am considering making a random out-of-my-way trip just to try it since it sounds like I won't have to wait in line before open just to try it or risk losing out.

From what I remember (and it's been a while and I wasn't as crazy back then as I am now so I may be somewhat wrong) it was basically around for a weekend the first time. I remember missing out on the Saturday when they released it because I was at a party or something and then I think it sold out sometime on Sunday. They then didn't bring it back for a while, I think maybe stout week 2019 then where they had surprise bottles at the brewery and cellar which is where I got to first have it.

Things were a lot different back then though, smaller production, no bottle pours, more hype overall. Who knows what will happen this week

owk b1 was memorial day weekend i think and it lasted a day and a half or maybe 2 full days and that was it. then it would pop up much later at an anniversary (or 2 maybe?), stout week on a sunday i think (very limited) and the first invitational (draft pour as attendees entered)

Yeah, I recall hearing that it was only a few cases that made it to the second day / Sunday when it first released.

Drinking MJK and OWK side by side at the cellar. Being able to drink two of the best beers in their respective styles side by side is a real treat.

I mean, my buddy ended up opening his la coterie bottle 5 months later at a share with 4 of us so given what I know now, I wouldn’t have went lol. But at the time I was single and bored and wanted the tick. Married with a kid now, no way I’m standing in line for anything.
