    Happy Friday, BA!

This weekend is brought to you courtesy of the earth's rotation around its axis, and its orbit of the sun, both of which conspired to bring us back to Friday. Everyone, a big round of applause for the laws of physics!

The laws of physics are a never-changing constant, be it the speed of light, the weight of an electron, the uselessness of Twitter, or my misunderstanding of pastry sours. Yep, cosmologically heavy contemplation has led me to the discovery that I just don't get pastry sours. All of which brings me, eventually, to today's beer: Choke Berry's New Sound, a chokeberry and marshmallow pastry sour by Bonehead Brewing here in Melbourne, Australia. What's a chokeberry? Dunno. But I know it doesn't belong in beer. The beer has ended up a weird facsimile of pink grapefruit juice and marshmallow squashed together, and I don't understand why anyone brews it, drinks it, or, heaven forbid, enjoys it! But I'm not the beer police, so if pastry sours are your thing, then you do you.

And while I'm ranting, Australian brewers have been known in the past to borrow intellectual property (IP) from movies, tv and popular culture and use said IP in their can designs, but my understanding was that this was dwindling away as people were either asked to desist (*cough* Jedi Juice *cough*) or took it upon themselves to be less flagrant in their borrowings. This beer name and can art on this one is such a flagrant take on Back to the Future (and I love that movie, btw!) it doesn't even try to hide the fact. But while I'm not the beer police, neither am I the IP police, so if this is your thing, then more power to you.

    Cheers, and rant over!

Just paste the link into the post and it should work, but only if it's a YouTube or Vimeo link.

edit: don't highlight it and click on the button above to make it into a link. I suspect that's what you did.

    That's all I did here:

    Cheers!

Good day BAs! Thanks @AzfromOz for starting today's thread! And don't forget to thank the earth's albedo and the greenhouse effect of water and carbon dioxide for our current mild winters (at least here in the northern hemispheres) and the axial wobble for our cyclic ice ages. I know it's more complicated than this, but chaos theory tells us why the accuracy of weather forecasts are limited, at least until quantum computers help out.

Today's New Breakfast Beer isn't (New, anyway) because I had it back in March 18, 2017, in a ninja box from @Dragginballs76.

Just for the halibut (sounds fishy, I know) I decided to re-review it and see how it stacks up now.
Old rating 4.18, rDev -6.7%. New rating 4.21, rDev -5.8%. So basically no change. although this recent flavor seemed to lack some of the fudge flavor and creaminess of the 2017 sample.

DFH Shelter Pale Ale 5%. One of my first craft beers. Came in a mixed pack. It's been so many years that Im not sure if it's the same or not. I like the hop flavor. Body is a little thin feeling. Not quite as I remember but I would drink again. Tastes fresh.

Does this see distro or did you get it from the brewery? I plan to travel up there but wanted to know whether they also sell it further south.

I thought I was 'seeing tings' when I walked to the beer department of our local supermarket this afternoon. Could have been those NA beers I recently had. Pinched myself and touched the the bottles. All real.

Officially Westveleteren is not to be sold in shops, let alone supermarkets. I suspect this is an old batch (that is no no problem with #12). Since it is unlabelled and recent Westvleteren has a label on it.

The missing label gave me a bargain too. The girl at the check out could not scan the bottle and scanned another bottle (1,95) instead. Supermarket price is about € 11,95, price at at the Abbey is around 2 €/$ I believe (if only you can get it).

I'll donate at least 10 €/$ to Westvleteren or one of their charities

    Cheers!

    Happy Friday BA's.....

Cold and crappy out - and nursing what feels like a head cold today - so staying put - drinking a Stella Liberte with my homemade onion soup for lunch - yummy! Emma keeps looking at me, like..." what, no long hike today, Dad person?"

found this 30+ year old 3D "paper art" a friend made for me over 30 years ago, while cleaning up my office area - it depicts me sailing on my beloved Satori - a sailboat I have owned for 45 years this year! Crazy! The entire piece she made entirely from paper....
