Overrated Beers?

Hey everybody this is the overrated forum. The overpriced forum was a few weeks ago.

 

Man, that is a lot 20 bucks out the door. I generally will have to have a strong feeling about the beer or the brewery when I enter into that price range. I will do it but with some education.(cheap) HAHA do it so I would also have some caution with either Focal Banger or Heady Topper for that price and would purchase less often as you do. In the CT it is 17 and 18 meh
But I do enjoy the Uniqueness and special qualities and buy them,.
Heady is pretty special IMO but if the price went over 20???....IDK

Also I just saw Pliny for sale today for $8... They're pricing me out. Like you said- so many other options out there now.

 

KBBS - most disappointing beer I've ever had in terms of hype

 

8 is good but 10 is divine! I do love St. Bernardus too, maybe just off pace of the 10 personally.

 

A brewery instead of a beer: Firestone Walker. Have had 805, Pivo Pils, Oaktoberfest, Mind Haze, Hopnosis, Parabolita, Mocha Dolce, maybe a few more I can’t remember. I never enjoy as much as the reputation leads me to believe I should. As with many comments, never a bad beer but nothing yet I want to pursue for seconds. Now, just had my first Wookey Jack a few days ago and that’s a beautiful beer for me. Maybe if I get my hands on a Stickee Monkee or Velvet Merkin I’ll have to delete this post!

 

I haven’t had the luck to try a KBBS yet but I did get to sample some Morning Delight and thought that was very over rated as well. I was disappointed in NEBCO’s Fuzzy Baby Ducks. Just found it thin and bitter and didn’t understand why this was such a highly promoted old school formula NE IPA. Maybe because it’s only 6.2% ABV I suppose.

 

Focal Banger from The Alchemist I think is better than Heady Topper. Not that Heady is bad!

 

I can’t say I agree with disappointing, but at the current prices KBBS is going for here in SEPA; slightly overhyped!

 

I usually mention that Equilibrium beers are pretty forgettable and overpriced in a sea of hazy IPAs. But maybe I'm judging them too harshly. I've had far worse NEIPAs and I don't really drink the style anymore, so maybe I'm not qualified to criticize them so harshly.

 

Glad you enjoyed it. I found it to be incredibly disappointing, and would say in my opinion it's the most overrated beer on the market

I have to hit the "Agree" button. There is generally a good reason why the beers are popular.

There are plenty of beers with no hype that are really good. Mostly from hundreds of small breweries around the US and aboard.

 

You’re not too far off. Equlibrium has some pretty good collaborations that they do with Vitamin Sea, Trilium, etc. Their Möbius porter they’ve started canning is world class in my opinion!

 

Anything that would require me to chase a truck or line up at 3 am to get. I used to somewhat enjoy trying moderately hard to get limited releases, but now the quality and variety of beer in my area is enough that I honestly just don’t feel like I’m missing out by not participating in chasing beer any more. More power to you if that’s your thing though

 

Boulevard is over rated. Not a fan of any of the 30 plus I have tried. I just don’t try anymore.

Their BA stuff I will defend. They do have some occasional misses though
