    Barclay Brewing Co.
    FLUX
    13.8% | 12oz can
FLUX is a 13.8% Imperial Stout that's 50% young Stout and 50% older barrel-aged Stout that has been aging for 12 months in Buffalo Trace Mash 1 barrels which hold some of Buffalo Trace’s oldest and rarest bourbon. We then condition this Stout blend on 300 Tahitian vanilla beans. The vanilla is restrained and sits on the back palate while on the front of the palate you get a well balance Stout that has bright notes from the young fresh Stout and rich chocolate and roast from the barrel-aged Stout, which adds a ton of complexity. For only 50% barrel-aged Stout, this has a lot of barrel character that adds depth. This one you can sip and think about. (Contains a very small amount of lactose.)

Pours thick and jet black. The thing that stands out is how viscous it is. Sneaky complexity, more flavors come out as it warms up a bit. Really interesting, nothing overpowers. The thickness was a bit off-putting for me, but a really good sipper overall.

Gotta say that thomapa1 nailed it that review. The beer is delicious, but the mouth feel is not appealing to me. Barely notice the 13+ABV and the subtle vanilla makes it really nice. Just a bit too viscous for my liking and feels like it sticks to your mouth and hangs on in your throat. Almost gotta wash it down with something else! Good sipper with great taste but not one I’d pursue again.

I enjoyed the Flux Imperial Stout w/Vanilla from Barclay Brewing yesterday. The vanilla flavor was not overpowering.

The other reviews nailed it pretty well. This is an excellent stout. Lots of complexity but nothing overwhelming. Not boozy for BA aged that comes in at 13.8. I personally love how think it is. A good chewy stout that doesn’t overwhelm. I would definitely pursue another of this beer. 2 for 2 so far Todd.

Not sure if my can was off but all I got was vanilla. It was like drinking a thick can of vanilla. Interested to see if I'm the only one that feels this way or not.

Here is #2. It is quite thick and almost jumped out of the can... a little mess. Looked quite nice in the glass, though, with the black body and the chocolately head. Initial taste is very smooth, roasty, chocolatey. Kind of a sweeter, buttery finish that makes me want some water on hand. To me it's very balanced and dangerously easy to drink. Very tasty chocolate flavor with a fair amount of vanilla, spice, and barrel. Not heavy despite the ABV. Yeah I could drink this on the regular.

    Seriously Big Stout right here.
The vanilla is right out front, think chocolate dipped marshmallow. The barreling keeps it from becoming overwhelmingly sweet. There’s really good balance all the way through the experience. Syrupy finish that lingers long.
A true sipper, I really enjoyed this one a lot.

I found this hard to drink and gave up partway through. Vanilla-flavored motor oil, more or less.

Wish I read the reviews before opening the can as it made quite a mess. I found the vanilla overpowering and the sweetness just too much for my palate. The Bourbon tones added a nice counterbalance. Though the can was only 12 oz I couldn't finish it. Wish one of you guys who likes sweeter stouts was here to share the rest with me.

Pitch black, hugs the glass nicely. Very viscous, my favorite. There's some sweetness, but not overly so, but I'm biased towards sweet stouts. I find the vanilla to be a touch, it's there but it doesn't taste like someone dumped extract into it.
    Glad I got 2

This is an odd beast. It is black, viscous, and thick. Loads of vanilla up front but the barrel qualities follow close behind. There is a wine-like tannic quality to the finish. This beer totally coats my mouth and it’s not exactly a pleasant sensation. The aftertaste reminds me of cherry-flavored Halls cough drops. I like it at first but it really overstays its welcome. The only way I’m gonna finish this glass is if I can find some food that pairs well with it.

For me, I enjoy thick dark stouts. This one was great for me in that it’s not overpowering with sweetness or coffee. A great sipper, and I wish I had more of it on hand.

I thought this was great. Midnight black. Very dark chocolate dominates but not too bitter. Nice booze to it but not overwhelming. Lingers in the mouth and throat making it nice as a slow dessert sipper after dinner. 12oz was plenty for me. Nice one.

Super dark pour with barely any head. Aroma is vanilla with a bit of bourbon.
Much sweeter than expected, but it works. A lot sweet chocolate with some roasted notes. Mouth feel is somewhat creamy. Maybe even some lingering brown sugar on the finish. As it warms, more bourbon is evident. Overall, a very good beer, but not one that I'd have more than one of in a sitting.

This one is definitely SAE Certified! I don't mind the higher viscosity. Lovely notes of roasty rich chocolate. Smooth, sweet vanilla finish. Gets more complex as it warms. Good with a BBQ beef sandwich. Delicious![IMG]

Another big stout to wrap up my weekend. Had to check in on the Duvel tasting earlier and opened this can next. Definitely feeling it a bit towards the end of this beer. Im enjoying the BIG Stouts beer overall and glad to have had the chance to try a beer from this new to me brewery. Thanks for coordinating @Todd !!

    onto my review:[IMG]

Sampling this cellar temp beer. Pouring the 12 oz can into my snifter. Date stamp is 1/03/2023. So very fresh beer.
the beer pours a very dark black color, fairly thick on the pour, and even with a VERY aggressive pour, I only get.5 cm of dense dark brown head foaming up on the glass. This foam fades quickly to a thin edge layering.
Aroma on this beer is fudge brownie, some light vanilla and a bit of sweet bourbon. no hint of hops and the bourbon notes are sweeter not boozy or fusol.
First sip reveals a thick body with coating texture and gentle rolling carbonation. Definitely leaves a coating on my palate after each sip.
Flavor is dark chocolate and fudge, moves to some sweet vanilla. Also some bourbon notes mixed in here. NOt boozy on the flavor profile either. No hops anywhere.
This is a big thick beer with the flavors that are anticipated based on the label. I enjoy this one and am glad to have tried it as part of the BIG STOUTS box. gave me the flavors I expected when I popped the top.

Flux does mask the high alcohol with layers of sweet vanilla, but as widely noted its prominent viscosity detracts a bit from such a deeply flavorful brew. Wouldn't bother buying it, but I wouldn't ever turn it down if offered.
