Revolution Brewing Dark Mode 13.8% | 12oz can A blend of chocolate malt, traditional roasted barley, and debittered black malt lends this Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Milk Stout its nebulous, void-like hue without harsh, detracting astringency to make your mouth sad. Golden oats enhance the body, while a dash of applewood smoked malt provides the gentlest expression of smoldering depth. Has anyone noticed this was canned in December 2021? I'm sure it will still be really good because I've liked what I've had from Revolution in the past, but I was hoping it would be somewhat fresher. And from what I've noticed with the other beers in the box is that for the most part they are pretty fresh as least compared to this one. I guess I should be happy it's already pre-aged.
i knew it was from the previous year’s DW releases but still psyched to get to try that one! it should be just fine!
Haven’t gotten my box yet, but I did get a 4-pack of this Dark Mode last year. Had a can recently and it was fantastic. Maybe even a bit better than fresh!
"Extreme"ly aged, perhaps? Ok, not really, but it seems like you are right: nothing much to complain about from those that have sampled it already, so I am looking forward to it.
Notwithstanding the 12/2/21 canning date, Dark Mode is excellent! Lots of bourbon, slippery-smooth mouthfeel, and it's a great-looking Imperial Stout. Highly recommended.
Tried the Revolution Brewing Dark Mode Imperial Stout yesterday and no surprise it was very tasty. Best one so far, but I have only had 3.
Dripping tears from the disappointing Buffalo Bills loss yesterday.,. My disposition sweetened as I sipped this beautiful elixir. Cheeeeers!
Wow - this one was superb - a real treat for first sip to last. Very well rounded, tons of flavor and complexity comes through. This is now one of my favorite barrel aged stouts!
well, i didn’t seem to think a year+ did much to hinder my enjoyment of this fine stout ale. while i never tried this fresh, this tasted wonderful to me. not as big or complex as Deth’s Tar but still really enjoyable. bourbon and milk chocolate goodness. cheers!!
Good (Dark)Lord this beer is good. Dark Mode in full effect here. Delicious boozy cherry-marshmallow-dark chocolate notes throughout. It keeps ringin that bell. And mine. Wow....
My wife drunk-opened this and killed 9/10 before I realized this was what she was drinking. The 2 sips I got were pretty good though. I'm lamenting not catching it sooner.
I think I had a sample from this exact batch about a year ago, fresh out of the barrels and in a keg. It was hard to believe that this didn’t have cocoa added. It was straight bourbon-laced chocolate milk sweetened with brown sugar. After a year in the can, this is incredibly sweet & smooth for 13.8%, without any adjuncts. Less chocolate and more stone fruit than the last time I had it. 6th out of Extreme Beer Box: Big Stouts. I’m glad I tried it again. Shows a remarkable complexity. I had to up my rating: 4.75/5.00.
Being from a suburb of Chicago, I had to start my Box with Revolution. I found it a typical Revolution beer. It has better than average nose, excellent dark color, smooth to the first taste, great finish, and one can feel the alcohol %.
I'm sure it'll still be pretty good. Plan on drinking my can tomorrow so I'll post it here when I do.
And yep, I was stupid for complaining about the age of this: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22072/377391/?ba=bluejacket74#lists One of my favorites from the Big Stouts box so far. Cheers everyone!
