Gratitude aged in rye barrels. Compliments of @adrock314 in a trade a while ago.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a murky brown (fairly light) with a thin layer of off-white head. Looks fantastic!

The nose is wonderful. Pepper spice, toffee, citrus peel, raisins, a slight nutty note, bread, and a nice earthy note. The rye definitely comes through here.

The taste is outstanding. Soft caramel candy, slight citrus, oak, grainy bread, rye, and that pepper comes back in the taste. There is a leather taste for sure. Also getting an earthy note. Just a lovely American barleywine that isn't over-influenced by the barrel. Nice and hoppy with a great malty compliment.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is a mix of citrus peel and toffee. Great barleywine!

Very nice! Can't imagine anything living up to that can from last year's box, but this sounds great!

It surprised me, but I thought this was as good. Hope they resume shipping while these are still around.

Wheatwine is very much a hit or miss style for me. Apart from Goose Island and Jackie O's there haven't been many I loved.

I'm liking this well enough but the maple syrup comes on a bit too strong at the finish. I also get some vanilla and anise at the back end that don't quite jibe. This does make a good first impression at least, with wonderfully vibrant sweetness up front in form of bourbon, caramel, maple, honey, and faint peaches. Mouthfeel is lush and full.

Had the OG of that back in 2013 on tap. My check-in says it was great mouth feel but had a slight artificial taste. Sounds like it's not worth getting. Thanks for doing all the R & D for us!

    This one's for @micada - 2021 J.W. Lees brewed with 1986 yeast. Comes in at 10.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky orange/brown with almost no head. The nose is bloody amazing. Orange, toffee, yeast, spice, floral note, and a hint of honey.

The taste is outstanding. Wow. Didn't expect this. I think I have had a couple of cans recently and was disappointed. This is absolutely spectacular. Huge malts, sourdough bread, orange, slight hops, vanilla, again the floral note, and a ton of toffee. Apricot jam comes through after a bit, as well as an oaky note. Man, this is just fantastic.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and mildly sweet on the aftertaste. The ABV isn't really detectable. Overall, one of the best J.W. Lees Harvest Ale's that I have tried.

Chicagoland is extremely lucky to have Revolution. 48 oz for $25 and zero line or stress or chase required. Only thing that would make this better is if they aged it a few more years then blended a bunch of them and then barreled it again

Boulevard Barrel-aged imperial stout & barleywine ale. Compliments of @DIM.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with little head. Perhaps more dominated by the stout? The nose is dominated by dark fruit. Plums, red grapes, blackberries. A hint of toffee and maple also comes through.

The taste is great. Roasted malts, maple, brown sugar, toffee, tons of dark fruit, and some nice chocolate notes. I definitely think this leans more towards a stout than a barleywine, but I love this blends! Mouthfeel is creamy and viscous. The aftertaste is sweet, but not too sweet. Overall, a great blend!

i always wondered where this thread landed on the newly popular imperial stout / barleywine blends.

does this mean we get to post them in both this thread and the imperial stout thread??

Lucky indeed. I don't know how their club/society works but I can't imagine there's a better situation available for people who love big, dark, barrel aged beer. Everything I've had from them has been amazing.

Poured at room temp. Nice sweet maple and toffee flavors upfront followed by a mild bourbon burn that lingers. Sense some maple aftertaste as well with the bourbon. Very smooth but not thin viscosity and trying to limit this glass to small sips is quite challenging!

Thanks to @DIM for this one! Maestro from Alesong. 2021 edition - only bourbon barrels (looks like some previous vintages include wine barrel aging). Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky orange/light brown with very little head. The nose is really nice. Super smooth. Caramel, slight maple, slight citrus. Some plums and figs, with a kiss of raisins. The nose is somewhat subtle, but I'm guessing the taste will say more.

The taste is crazy intense and good. Sweet toffee, plums, raisins, delicious figs, some oak, vanilla, and a bit of brown sugar. Just a lovely combination of flavors here! It's definitely on the sweet side, but I'm not finding it too sweet at all. The ABV is very well hidden...dangerously so.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. A nice soft feel to it. Overall, a great beer! I'm going to sip on this for the next hour for sure. Thanks for sending this one, Dan!
