If and when it came to that day when you have to give up that liquid gold drink how would you respond? Would your life change because you had to give up your favorite liquids? Would you go to NA beers or just give it up completely? For whatever reason, doctors order, personal choice, starting a new family, etc.

I have difficulties to envision a life without NA beer, luckily that is not required in this thread!

I quit drinking on October 12th (personal choice), and have settled into NA beers. They’ve come a long way and it’s been pretty fun exploring all that’s out there now. It’s not quite the same, and quitting was hard at first, but it is what it is. Cheers:beers:

If i had to give beer I'd miss it but I would quickly move on. I would try NA (actually, I try them now). I prefer Hop WTR to any NA beer but that could change.

Out of curiosity, is your profile name a Korpiklaani reference?

Had to google, a Metal band! The plain "beer" was taken, hence beer_beer

Ah! Yeah, they have a song called Beer Beer. Great band, if you’re into that

I think about this frequently. I guess it depends if I get to keep all my other hobbies. Frequently when a doctor orders you to stop drinking alcohol, he’s also going for the coffee. And the cigars. And the bourbon. I guess if I had to to quit everything I like to do all at once, I would be quite irritated at first. Cheers.

I certainly had an irritable couple weeks, but it wasn’t as bad as quitting cigarettes

If I had to quit beer, it would be because I had to quit all alcohol, and it would only be for health reasons. I'd also quit NA beers and beer-flavored seltzers, etc. (The fridge and liquor stash would have to be empty too because I couldn't bear to pour it down the drain or keep it around for guests.) I'd spend the extra money on traveling, which is a happy alternative.

Well I abstain from beer regularly for my own reasons but being forced to do so is entirely different.

It'll happen eventually, and that'll be that. Life is change, and staying happy has to do with adapting along the way.

But for now, at age 52, I'm starting to slow it down a bit hoping that I can stay in "fighting shape" (aka: able to drink occasional brewsis well into my 60s).

Don't limit yourself to the 60s. How about the 70s or the 80s?

That’s definitely true. For me, I just saw a bleak future ahead (for me and my family) and made a choice, but everyone has their own experience and reasons

I like my beers. I don’t drink any other alcohol except for an occasional margarita with my wife at a Mexican restaurant. Most Mexican restaurants only has Mexican beers or bud. There’s nothing wrong with that. Or I will bring my 16oz yeti tumbler with a lager or pils in it.
I drink beer 5 days a week. The other 2 days I work 16 hours each day. With only 4-4 1/2 hours of sleep before going back to work there’s no way I will drink beer. Otherwise I would drink beer 7 days. It doesn’t bother me one bit not drinking for 2 days. But t the next day after my 2nd 16hr work day that ice cold hoppy ass ipa taste so freaking delicious. When I drink beer I drink water too. Equalization. My wife puts up with it. She knows I love my beer. So for me to stop drinking beer would have to come from my doctor. Getting older and close to retirement I think about this. I don’t plan on quitting, but maybe cutting back. It would be hard, IMO because each year that goes by the beers seem to get better. There’s so many to try these days. If I had only 1 or 2 breweries to choose from then I would be bored with the same old beer. I would probably cut back on beer and just have it occasionally.

70’s is the best years for music. Some great classic bands came from the 70’s.

I was literally just about to tag him. I’ve found his posts over the years to be inspirational and really exemplary of how one should react to “life after beer”. Good thinking. Cheers.
