While the official release at the brewery will take place in March/April, kegs will apparently start going out to distributors/wholesalers sometime this month. The RR site doesn't say exactly when shipping will take place, but if past experience is any indication, it will likely take place around the beginning of the month.

From past experience (including last year), this seasonal, limited release TIPA continues to be hugely popular, with select accounts typically getting at most a single sixtel or half barrel. Most places receiving a keg of Younger, typically blow through their keg in a matter of hours. So it can sometimes be a daunting task getting to try a glass.

Hence this thread. This thread is dedicated to all things pertaining to Pliny the Younger, but especially news about any tappings in town. It would also be very cool to read about other TIPA's tappings, along with impressions of those beers (any good? better than Younger this year? a hot mess? etc ).

    Cheers and happy hunting!

Just a reminder that this round of Younger is solely for draft distribution. Our in-person release is March 24th-April 6th. So don’t show up here this Friday as we will all be sleeping in! Local and California distribution begins Thursday with out of state shipping next week.

That was from the RR bookface post yesterday(2/1).

We'll be getting it in the Seattle metro this year, as well. I'm guessing sometime after Valentines Day or Presidents Day weekend.

Was that on Facebook as well? The reason I ask, is that the RR site lists only California, Oregon, Colorado, the Philly area and Reno as distribution points for Younger this year. Of course, that could be old, dated information.

It was in a couple of the articles outlining the return to WA.

I saw this Vice Beer tribute (clone?) at Belmont Station the other day and figured it was worth a shot. Not quite the Russian River favorite but very much scratches that itch and for $5.50 a can. Full support here, I hope to get more.

Say what you will about the beer itself, but the name is clever and funny. Exactly the sort of combination that gets me to pull a can off the shelf, without knowing anything more about it.

Transplants Brewing in Palmdale, CA made a TIPA called Not Getting Any Younger a few years back.

Mine too. It wasn't all that terrible a tipa as I recall.

Have they stopped making it? I seem to recall them making it for several years, but it's been a while.

Bottleworks in Seattle advertised Saturday 2/11.
Probably a similar timeframe for most PNW locations.

Just saw that. Same price as last year.

I assume Belmont Station and Roscoe's will be tapping their kegs as well shortly.

They still have Big Chicken on as well. That would be a nice side by side comparison.

$8/8 oz in Seattle today at The Yard Cafe. Surprised it was cheaper here.

    Which I intend to conduct.

Here at Apex right now. Younger is excellent this year, though it seems a bit less boozy to my palate. It's really hard to believe this is a 10.2% abv. beer.

So...the chicken. The BC is considerably darker than younger, and has a much less pronounced nose. You really pick up the hops on the nose with younger. The BC smells like it's probably a much sweeter, maltier beer. Given what I see and smell, I expected the BC to be crushed by Younger flavor wise. However, at least to my palate, not so. It's a bit sweeter, but there's a huge wave of hops on the finish that balances the sweetness quite well. The sweetness and more overt booziness hurts the beer's drinkability a touch, but even so... this is an excellent, well crafted DIPA/TIPA that I'd happily order any time I saw it on the menu.

Better than Younger? Not to my palate, but I could see how someone else might prefer the BC. Both are very good beers.

Still drinking the BC, and unfortunately the quality disparity is widening. As it warms, the BC tastes sweeter and maltier. Still a very good beer, but not in the same class as Younger. At least not to my palate.

Cafe isn't open yet, but PtY is listed on Belmont Station's online taplist.

Pliny the Younger tapping and the new Yo La Tengo on the same day? I'm not sure my beard can handle this
