2020 edition of Hipster for Christmas by Lervig out of Norway. Bourbon barrel-aged barleywine that comes in at 13.1% ABV. One of the ingredients is "cinnamon bun aroma". WTF is that? Whatever it is, I like it!

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown with almost no head. The nose is great. Vanilla, chocolate, toffee, cinnamon, clove, blueberries, graham crackers, almonds, and a bit of coconut. A LOT going on here!

The taste is really interesting, and I really like it! Definitely some oatmeal cookie going on. Actually, reminds of an oatmeal cream pie (although it has been ages since I had one!). Cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, milk chocolate, a touch of brown sugar, and a strong coconut flavor. It's amazing how they got all of this out of a beer that has no adjuncts!

Mouthfeel is creamy and viscous. The ABV is dangerously hidden. Overall, I really like this one!

Tree of Unity. This is a blend of barleywine, partially bourbon barrel aged I believe, aged chocolate bitters barrels for 15 months.

This is an interesting way to add chocolate to a beer, and it adds a good deal of it. Plenty of the boozy/bourbon soaked toffee with hints of vanilla from the base barleywine remains though. There is chocolate throughout, taking different forms at different times. Creamy cocoa and cake batter up front, kind of fudgy in the middle, and I get straight up tootsie rolls at the finish. Definitely interesting and undeniably delicious, I am enjoying the hell out of this. Absolutely worth trying if you see it. I can't help help but wonder though if this would have been put to better use in a blend of some kind. With their banana barleywine for instance?

I think I might have liked it better on tap but that's splitting hairs at this point.

Jackie O's makes amazing barleywine and a lot of them.

This one is among their best, it's a blend of barleywines but they don't offer any more info than that. Leather, honey, apricot, and so much more. Reminiscent of Cuvee 11, just marvelous.

[IMG] I’m pretty sure that I’ve posted this before here, but I’m going to do it again. Industrial Arts State of the Arts Series Foeder Aged Barleywine. This is really good. Drinks like cognac!
