Pours a thick, chewy, almost jet black, tan head and some nice lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, licorice, toffee and some dark fruit.
Taste of coffee, roasted malts, toffee.
It's a big, thick, chewy beer.
    Probably shoulda bought more.

    Stovepipes!

Charred malts, richly toasted cereal, dark chocolate, vanilla, and coconut crème. Somewhat vinous at times with a dark berry like coffee note. Semi viscous coating and a noted alcohol warming. Moderate hop bitterness there lending an earthy dry finish. A touch of spice in the aftertaste. This has held up incredibly well BA, stored in the beer refrigerator!

Another winner from the Extreme Beer Box. In fact, they have ALL been winners so far.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with almost no head. Looks thick! The nose is amazing. Vanilla, chocolate, malted milk balls, salted caramel, and slight roasted malts. I love when a beer just clicks and I want to keep smelling it. This is one of those.

The taste is great. Brown sugar, malts, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, oak, dark fruit, a touch of cinnamon, and some tar.

The mouthfeel is super thick and the aftertaste is mostly sweet toffee and chocolate. The ABV is insanely hidden on this. Super dangerous sipper! Overall, a fantastic beer!

So, I went to a store earlier today hoping to find the new batch of Stone Ruination. They didn't have any, but there was a single can of the 2022 IRS that came out about 3 months ago on the shelf. I'm enjoying it as I type this. I can't remember the last time I had a pour of this beer when it is new/current/fresh. I still have a few bombers of vintage stone IRS in my cellar I haven't cracked yet. Really enjoying this can of IRS. I forgot how excellent this beer is fresh! It's still got that signature Stone hop presence! Goes really well with the heavily roasted malts. Stone IRS was one of the first, if not the first, beer of this style I had. I first had it in April 2006 when that year's batch was new/fresh. I'll be on the hunt this coming week for Ruination and more cans of IRS too. Let's hope Stone brings both of these back in some type of regular rotation, even if they are only available as yearly seasonals.

This one surprised me with just how good it was: Founders KBS - Chocolate Cherry

Pours pitch black, dark, oily and opaque. Thin one to two finger head forms on the beer. Its mocha colored and velvety in consistency. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, cocoa, dark bakers chocolate, coffee, and a subtle hint of tart cherry. Not much comes through on the nose in the way of bourbon or barrel, but that is kind of par for the course with KBS.

Taste follows the nose with notes of roasted malts, bakers chocolate, cocoa, lots of fresh coffee and hints of bourbon and oak. The cherry is there, but it is very subtle. So subtle in fact that I initially read it as part of the coffee - a fruity coffee - but then realised it was the cherry not the coffee. As the beer warms up the cherry opens up a bit and becomes more noticeable. This is clearly KBS plus some cherry - the base beer is exactly what I remember from KBS with the even handed addition of cherry, Feel is relatively light to medium bodied for a stout. Its smooth and luscious. Moderate carbonation.

Overall its very good and a worthy addition to the KBS name and lineup. I was skeptical of this one, but it turns out its excellent.

love extended barreling and this is a magnificent example of it.

There is a rye whiskey/molasses note dominating this that I'm loving. I also get dark European chocolate, plenty of roasty char, plus hints of anise. If you think all big beer needs to be viscous and sticky, you might find this thin. I find the mouthfeel wonderfully smooth. This is an all-timer.

Even after all these years, FW remains one of the best breweries. Especially, when it comes to these high ABV, barrel aged offerings.

    Cheers! :beers:

I've read reviews where people say mouthfeel is thin and i just keep on walkin:rolling_eyes:

Paraboloid is a great example of the world class barrel program they got up at FW.

No apologies necessary - without you I'd have never had the opportunity to try this brew! And remember, I grade hard.
