Heads Up: Karma System Revamp!

I bet @Todd has already done that, or will soon as he picks the new titles and sets their numeric range.

 

It's like Todd unplugged the Pac-Man machine and erased everyone's high score.

 

He should have hired the same electrician that Jerry and George used for backup power for the Frogger machine!

If you take a look at how points are awarded, the system favors people who contribute equally in all aspects of the site (i.e. reviewing beers, adding beers, posting, getting likes on your post, etc.). It seems some people focus on one aspect, which is fine, but it won't net as high of BK as in the past.

The jumps between the higher levels means you'd need to contribute in other areas to accumulate points more easily. Otherwise you've got to jump from 5000 to 10,000 beer reviews for something like 50pts.

 

with the latest addition of 2 items, the count seems to be 4225 points for 183 items.

 

Here are already 120 points, easy peasy:

60 Beer Reviewer: Level 12 You reviewed 25,000 beers.
60 Beer Contributor: Level 12 You added 25,000 beers to our database.

By the way, I'm so glad I subscribed to the paper BeerAdvocate when there still was time, adding a much needed 25 points. It's kind of cemented.

 

If you add up levels 1-12, it's 390 points each for those easy peasy achievements!

 

I've never seen this much talk about fight club (if there was such a thing, which there isn't).

 

Is there an echo in here? I wonder what the AI would make of beer poobah echo chamber.

 

Like most, I don't often read all pages of a long thread, but when others are still chiming in with the same questions six pages in, I'll answer it. I hereby award you karma points for spending so much time to make a point.

 

Could we set poobah to 900 points?

Edit: 800 would suit me better, but 1000 is too much.

But 1000 will be the real milestone anyway...

Funny. I saw a couple posts complaining about the same thing, so I figured I'd reply to one. You also didn't quote all the posts talking about similarities with Untappd badges (mine included.)

It is amusing that I took the time to look at how BK is accumulated and not reading every single post in this thread. Looks like my experience matches others though.
