I saw on social media Stone is distributing Enjoy by IPA 4/20/23 and the math didn't quite add up to me. So did a little research to verify last time I had an enjoy by, which has been awhile since it's harder to find, it used to be a 35 day Enjoy by date. That's now been bumped to 70 days. Still well within the reasonable freshness window for a beer but feel it follows a theme of subtle changes Stapporone has been making without disclosing. Another example is releasing OG ruination but not being the OG 7.7% recipe.

Felt it'd be fun to discuss. Thoughts?

    Cheers!

I bought a 6 pack of the most recent ruination and thought it was good. I couldn’t tell you how close or far away it tasted from the OG. They could probably rebrew the OG and still couldn’t tell. I did like the beer and the gold cans were pretty rad.

the 35 days is definitely ambitious and if they were doinga small release I can see it making sense. I think 60 days is a good mark. So 70 is close.

from a business standpoint the changes makes sense. Not sure how the overall public thinks. My first thought is the person buying stone isn’t paying that much attention that these changes make sense.

they couldn't brew the og cuz they they cant source the hops needed not cuz theyre out to get you

same with the tons of other old breweries changing recipes.

In the absence of a robust marketing campaign announcing the change of best by duration I am not a fan of this.

I will not be buying this release.

    Cheers!

because they didn't email you to let you know they changed it?

I've had this beer at 3 months old and it barely changed shit.

It doesn't have to be an e-mail. They could openly advertise this change either on the packaging or something similar.
Given the posts I have read from you, I am not surprised you can't notice shit.

Can someone confirm this is the first release with the extended 70 day freshness date?

There is zero reason to support Stone at this point. Greg Koch was an unlikable tool before selling (and made a lot of dumb decisions before he did), and then his arrogant ass did sell (something he swore he would never do). It’s over. The 2000’s are gone. I’m not going to support Sapporo. I don’t eat wonder bread, so I’ll no longer drink Stone.

35 or 70 days won't matter, as I will still be able to find EB in the singles section well past the enjoy by date.
