It’s National Pizza Day today, Feb. 9. What breweries are serving good pizza these days? Chicago’s Piece Pizza and Middle Brow are the first two that come to mind. Looks like Half Acre Balmoral stopped doing their pizza at some point which is a shame because pizza + good beer = awesome.
For the Twin Cities, I'd say Bricksworth has some really good and creative/fun Detroit-style offerings.
I can get behind National Pizza Day. I already enjoy International Pizza Day after all. Hmm, any other Pizza Day too for that matter. Have heard good things regarding Middle Brow's pizza (came across this recent-ish article on an internet search just now for anyone interested).
Interesting article, but I need to reiterate that tavern style is a new buzzword and not an actual style that has any agreement of what it actually is. About as maddening as some of these beer styles guidelines that are open to interpretation.
Somebody needs to brew this beer again for all of these pizza days. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16836/41127/
I never heard of tavern style before. And I've lived in Chicago my entire life. I've heard of "tavern cut", i.e., squares instead of wedges. Looking at the pizzas shown in the Middle Brow article, they remind me of Barnaby's https://www.barnabysofniles.com/
Middlebrow's pizza is top notch. Definitely worth the trip, especially for a Tuesday when they do tavern style pies
For more Minneapolis brewery choices look to Surly Pizza (upstairs, and to go) and Nouvelle (in Robbinsdale).
