Yeah, but it's not about me! It's about you hitting 100-200 new Barleywines this year!

2004 Old Guardian from Stone! Heck yeah! Cellared properly for 19 years.

Poured just warmer than fridge temp. Pours a nice murky brown. No noise when the cap came off. The nose is sweet toffee, figs, raisins, prunes, and a touch of hops. Super smooth.

The taste is so bloody smooth. The hops come in here, but are slightly overpowered by wonderful caramel notes. The hops come through as a bit of citrus peel and pine needles. Malty, with tons of dark fruit. Raisins, a bit of leather, and hay. Just so smooth.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found this. The distributor I found it at had two 4 packs of it. I had never had it before so I took a chance and bought one 4 pack. As soon as I tried it I went back to said distributor and bought the other 4 pack!

This is the *ahem* penultimate beer from the stash that @DIM gave me last winter. I could drink rye whiskey barrel beers more often. There's a lightness to the flavor which compliments the sweetness of the malt and higher abv. Really enjoying this one.

Showing of the $10 words, nice! Hope the last one is the ultimate, which one do you have left?

Central Waters brandy barrel something-or-other. I've been holding off drinking that one because I can't recall ever having brandy. Thought it might be useful to try some first so I have a better idea of how it impacts the beer.

Enjoying Parallassein from Olde Hickory. This was aged in Port barrels for 299 weeks so if you enjoy Port this one is for you! Personally, if this was rebarreled in Bourbon halfway thru, the additional nuances would have enhanced it for my palate. As it was, figs and brown sugar dominate with a touch of chocolate on the backend. Overall a 4.18.
    Cheers!

Continuum, a collaboration between Voodoo and Equilibrium. Bourbon barrel aged 32 months.

I have to say I'm not very enamored with this one. It has elements from extended barreling that I typically like, plenty of wood, lots of leather, strong molasses with a burned raisin edge to it, and as potent a note of pipe tobacco as any I've found at the finish. It just kind of seems like maybe the barleywine that went into the barrels couldn't stand up to all that time in wood. There just isn't much actual beer to be found here. I do get a fleeting, old jammy note but no other fruit and no caramel or toffee. Not much in the way of sweetness at all.

I'm so glad wheatwine has a place here too!

I know of one distinct Barleywine brewed here in UT a part of a Collab between Uinta and Kiitos, their American Barelywine Ale, and it is hopefully going to be on shelves again here soon.

However I found this beaut the other day (and forgive me, it's been a few days)

    Uinta - Cinnamon Roll Wheatwine

Pours what I'd consider a fairly standard dark gold bordering on amber

Tastes were noticably spiced, but not necessarily worthy of calling it a 'cinnamon roll' in my opinion

Very warming and a great winter beer, but was missing the sugar sweetness I'd expect from something with this kind of name.

Big boozy barleywine from the cellar as part of Cellaruary: 2016 bottle of DFH Olde School. Raisin, brown sugar, fig, spiced rum, pipe tobacco - very rich aroma as it warms.

Very nice! I tried that once around 8 years ago but never reviewed it. Based on the ABV, seems like it should definitely be a good one to sit in the cellar for an extended period of time!

    Finally, VSOJ!

I’ve wanted to try this one for quite some time obviously, but by the time I secured a can, I already had some Double Barrel VSOJ coming in from Tavour. Naturally, I wanted to try this out first so I can progress through the series in order.

This is a boozy, cask-driven Barleywine. Sweeter in the nose than in taste with lots of burnt caramel, sweet booze, and sugary notes with a bit of rye spice. It’s more fruit forward in taste, but never overbearing. Lots of black cherry and raisin with sweeter notes of molasses and whiskey. It’s very slick and a tad sticky on the finish, but the thin execution Revolution is known for keeps it from being overly sweet

This is an all around awesome beer. I know it’s only a year and a half old (canned 6/29/21) but I’d love to try it fresh if I get the chance some time

Enjoying an Olde Hickory Omega Point 25th Anniversary. A blend of multiple beers and barrels.

Taste is very nice, a large combined malt base gives notes of figs and cherries, a kiss of bourbon, and notes of tobacco. Finishes with a red wine barrel tang.
Overall a really easy sipper, very pleasant to drink. Not super nuanced but you will enjoy it if you are a fan of BA English Barleywines.

Warming up with a quadruple IPA is a good way to make sure this thing hits the spot so hard that there’ll be no open casket for said spot.

This is a hoppy, malty, fruity great beer. I think i like Bigfoot a little more as far as American Barleywines go but this has a quality to it that I cant put my finger on but always keeps me searching for it...I really dig these
