2018 series 1 Stone Fyodor, a few past the 5 year mark. Super tight cork, no oxidation effects to my palate. Drinking great. Barrel all day.

So many of Burial stouts read incredibly crazy on the label and then I find them surprisingly balanced. Cheers.

Visited Birds Fly South today in Greenville, SC which is mainly known for their very good Farmhouse and Saison mixed fermentation ales but lo and behold i discovered they make an imperial stout and several barrel aged variants. The BBA was long gone but i ended up purchasing a four pack of Empress Rising aged in red wine barrels for 11 months. This is incredibly balanced and subtle (not overly fruity), very easy drinking for a 12.5% abv beer - Rated 4.21.

    Cheers!

All the previous threads are locked: This felt the most appropriate without adding a new string – Em Sauter dissects the porter to stout mishmash in simplistic terms:

@Resistance88 just snagged some Parabajava off Tavour. I guess it’s not totally useless. Still uninstalling after this box closes in 3 days

Double Barrel Vanilla Pallbearer from The Veil. thanks to @TurkeysDrinkBeer for this one.

absolutely incredible. tons and tons of oak spirit barrel, strong vanilla addition that blends with a chocolate-forward base imperial stout. thick mouthfeel. very much enjoyed this one.

    cheers!!

I don’t blame you. When I heard FW stopped distributing here, I happened to come across 4 2020 Parabolas at the only store I’ve seen it at. I bought them all. They were delicious

Cross posted this beaut with the #Cellaruary Thread. But definitely felt the Impy Stout lovers here would want a piece of the action too!
17 year old Avery Brewing Mephistopheles Stout. 15.1% ABV on the label. Bottled on Jan 2006. Glad to share this one with all y'all!

    Onto my review:

Im sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my snifter. The beer is from batch 1, bottled in January 2006. Part of my cellaruary effort of 2023!
the beer pours a rich cola brown and sits like black coffee in my glass, no light passing through. I get zero carbonation on the pour and a few clingy bubbles stick to the edge of my glass, but it is certainly not a complete "layer". Looks still in my glass.
Aroma is rich and robust, even just from the cap popping. Rich dark chocolate fudge mixes with molasses and figs and raisin. I also get some light fusol booze, but this is very buried and the malts steal the nose. No hops anywhere.
First sip reveals a thick body with VERY fine and gentle soft carbonation. the carbonation does fizz up if I swirl the beer in my mouth. Beer also leaves some legs on my glass like a merlot each time I take a sip.
Flavor is rich dark chocolate fudge carrying the lead. This moves to some molasses and a bit of a tobacco and leathery note comes through in the middle. Dark fruit shows through briefly and then a bit of roast note pops up and lingers on the finish. Never any hops and no warming booze here either.
I enjoy this 17 year old beer and am glad to have a chance to share it. I remember really liking this beer when it was new and fresh and am honestly surprised I didnt have review posted from the past. Glad to have #Cellaruary to help encourage me to open these old treats!!

Came across some bcbs in the bargain bin for $7. It's a great stout at that price. I'd love to see them switch to $20 4 packs. But I'll probably go grab the last 3 or 4 they had on discount if they are still there next week. Nice fudgy booze (boozey fudge?).
