Iowa native, California resident. Thanks for the site and the forums. I am learning a lot and there is a lot to learn. Wondering about nucleated glassware, is it worth the cost?

Nucleated glassware shouldn’t be more expensive than regular glassware.

As for making a noticeable difference…. It depends on the beer, and to a HUGE extent on your personal perception. If you are just drinking beer, vs. paying attention to the attributes of the beer, then likely you will only notice the visual effects. In other words, the impact on aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel is subtle.

Personally I find enhanced aromas in IPAs, Saisons, Belgians, among other styles. The mouthfeel and flavors often change although to a lesser extent. My suggestion is to buy one. Should be about $5 - $7 at a brewery, a little less at a second-hand shop. Try it over time; your perceptions will become more refined as you pay closer attention to the experience, which is beneficial regardless of the beer or the glass. It could take a few months to a year.

I've had one nucleated shaker pint glass and I never noticed enhanced foam that made me feel like it was anything special. But like @SLeffler27 said above, buy one and experience it for yourself.

Welcome to the BA site. Ain't it a great place to learn?! Seems like you've discovered that already.

THANKS for the reply, information, and advice. Just recently started dipping into the world of great tasting beers. In Iowa until 1987 carry out of anything above 3.2% had to come from a state owned Liquor store and be recorded in a personal Liquor Book purchased from state store.

DRACONIAN! I use cash as much as possible, so there is no record. well…….. , except, HERE, I suppose.

Seriously though, welcome to our community. Hopefully you find this place, and the folks as enriching and fun as we do. Oh, and feel free to make comments about karma, tipping, IPA’s, Fruit Smoothies, Pastry Stouts, and my personal favorites, children and dogs in the taproom.
