    Newburgh cream ale
    ...clear pale appearance
...around medium carbonation with a slightly thin body.
..aroma is cereal, grain, malt, earthy, dark honey
....taste is a bit sweet,an almost candy like element with some very mild tartness. Then comes some grain and cereal that lingers a bit along with an odd but nice sweet tart candy.
....this was almost a dessert beer from a new to me brewery that so far has been impressive [IMG]

New Belgium Fat Tire Ale, new version - I noticed right away with the new label that NB is not mentioned on it except for within the small print on the side that tells where it's brewed, interesting move. Pours from a bottle EB 04/30/23 (looks like it was bottled on 12/01/22). Nice head that sticks around, dark yellow/light orange color. Not much on the nose but the taste is pretty good, a nice light cracker-y thing going on, a bit spicy almost, a touch sweet but it ends balanced and dry...super drinkable and session-able, hits it out of the park in this regard. The 5.2% is not detectible at all and drinks like a 4% lighter beer.

Nothing like the original, though, so depending on your outlook that may be good or bad. I like the original but do think I prefer this and it would be a hit with just about everyone and would be a good beer to use to introduce strictly macro Lager drinkers to what an Ale can do. Budmo!

Thanks to @AzfromOz for getting us going. My first (and possibly last) new beer for the weekend is Barley Barge from Jackie O's (in collaboration with Permanent Hangover). A blend of bourbon barrel-aged barleywines.

Poured at fridge temp into a Jackie O's snifter. Pours dark brown (almost black) with pretty much zero head. The nose might be one of the best noses on a barleywine in quite some time. Rich toffee, plums, blackberries, vanilla, maple, a soft chocolate note, and a nice layer of brown sugar. Dang!!

The taste phenomenal. Again there is the rich gooey toffee, plus maple, brown sugar, raisins, prunes, vanilla, chocolate, and honey. Sooooo good. The mouthfeel is thick and viscous, with almost no carbonation. The aftertaste is rich toffee all the way.

Good evening, NBW. Nothing much going on today. I have the option to take Monday off, undecided on the three day weekend.

I may have accidentally ended up on a Czech Dark lager kick here, grabbing a few random beers today...

Jacks Abby Bohemian Dusk. The label says it is brewed with Bohemian floor malts and Saaz hops.

It pours cola colored with some red tinting, exceptionally clear. Light khaki head falls to a thin cap and sturdy rings, modest cling to the glass.

The smell is not overly strong, but seems to meet the style head on. Slightly sweet, malty bread. A faint nuttiness, some caramel or toffee, a touch of raisin. A very, very light hop spice floats atop the malty base.

The taste is actually a little cola-like. For Mainers, ex-Mainers and wannabe Mainers - it's reminding me a little of Moxie. Sweet malts with toasty flavors, a fairly assertive nutty flavor leaning hazelnut. Raisin becomes a little more like prune. Caramel, maybe a tad bit of chocolate. Spicy note that eventually resolves to a licorice flavor and a bit of black pepper. It is not overly roasty, but it certainly has that character. Noticeable but fleeting bitterness.

It has a medium feel to it - its substantial without getting thick or heavy. It is exceptionally smooth, slightly creamy. Moderate carbonation.

This beer is on point, in my opinion. It hits the BCJP style descriptors nicely. Not insanely intense in flavors, yet it seems rich and well-flavored. Diggin' it - recommend it if you see it - maybe a bit North of the 4.0 line.

....cloudy,murky,amber with waves of floating material floating around
...medium light carbonation with a medium body
...aroma is not very strong but theres grain and cereal and in the background some floral earthy honey.
...taste has very, very mild sweetness then some grain and cereal show up.
...this is good but isn't overwhelming [IMG]

I couldn’t resist this one tonight; I hadn’t kept up on the checking of my favorite local breweries site lately…so when I walked into the store and happened upon this beer I gave a double take and had the biggest smile on my face, I think I even gasped; it’s the little things in life. I pour this with great anticipation…

Tonewood Brewing - Bend (Brown Ale 6.0%)

This beer pours beautifully; it glistened a crystal clear dark brown stream from the can, dense creamy and somewhat bubbly light brown head…very good retention and nice lace…crystal clear when backlit but bright light.

Nose is hoppy yet restrained; comes off as mostly soft earthy and light pine, a rich but again restrained dark chocolate, a raisin like fruitiness with dark roast coffee on the back end.

Taste is also nicely hop forward but well balanced; same light pine bite, then light black coffee that finishes like a dash dark chocolate on the finish.

Body is medium; creamy smooth carbonation; very easy to drink for 6%, finishes with both moderately hop and roast driven bitterness.

A great American brown; it’s hoppy and just enough to not interfere with the brown ale notes…both working in harmony. I like this one a lot…

That’s all for me tonight, keep ‘em coming.

Quick rating today in between visit activities, this a gift from my brother.

Sierra Nevada Cryo Fresh Torpedo Wet Hop IPA

    Bottle Notes:
Bottled 1/3/23 @8:13, 7.0% ABV. Brewed with YCH 301 Trail Hops: Mosaic, Citra & Simcoe.

Cryo fresh Torpedo freeze hop harvest in time. Now the freshest, most powerful hop flavor is always within reach. The innovators at Yakima Chief Hops isolated pure Lupulin from just-picked wet hops, and this Torpedo is first to feature their extreme notes of citrus, stone fruit, and fresh harvest magic.

Appearance: Tan golden crystal clear base, mild carbonation, creamy white head leaves soapy clumpy. 4.25

    Aroma:
Stone fruit, tangerine, sweet, medium strength. Decent. 3.5

    Taste:
Nice pine lead, citrus and tangerine backs. Sweet, but balanced by pine flavored bitterness. 4.0

    Mouthfeel:
Medium dryness, bitterness overcomes the sweet flavor. Somewhat harsh alcohol leads to a heVy handed isolated taste, stronger than ABV. Lightly dry finish. 3.75

    Overall:
Overall this is a solid beer. Don’t get the typical dry hop characteristics with this frozen hops version, but good flavors none the less. The isolated alcohol taste the one aspect is change. 3.75

Natural State Brewing's ( Rogers, AR ) Greenway Helles, 3.6% ABV; 3.73 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with a thumb of eggshell colored head. Pretty good lacing & head retention

S: Soapy hops, a little breadyness, a touch if lemon, some perfumy hops once this warms up

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, grassy up front, just a touch of sweetness. Dryness & lime as this beer warms, some grainy notes. Finishes grassy, dry with some lime & grainyness

MF: Light/medium body, slight carbonation, decent balance

Not bad, but I prefer a little more heft for this style. Probably might have a different opinion if it was 90 outside. Everything has to be perfect when you work the low end of the ABV spectrum for me, really only seen it pulled off in Germany for the most part for this style

Greetings all from the great northwest where we are unseasonably warm, but that's not expected to last.

Today we have Cold Waters Cold IPA from Widmer Brothers.

Just average I'm afraid. And overly fruity.

Until next time when we may be in a cold snap

This is the second of two BCBS I bought to share with my brother. Unlike the first coffee, I never had this one.

Bourbon County Brand Sir Issac’s Stout (2022)

    Bottle Notes:
Purchased at Speedee Mart in Summerlin on Sahara refrigerated for $14.99 plus tax. Refrigerated through the next day until opening. Best by August 29, 2024 @ 15:04, develops in the bottle for up to 2 years. 16.9 oz, poured half in two snifters for share. Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels with Figs, Graham Crackers, and Natural Flavors.

Brewed, Barrel Aged and Bottle by Goose Island Beer Co. Chicago, Illinois. 13.9% ABV. Enjoy in a snifter.

    Appearance:
Pitch black base, light tan head lingers for a minute leaving a faint ring. Standard for this beer / variants. Split bottle to share in two BCBS Glasses. 4.0

Aroma: Barrel is pronounced, nice smooth enticing bourbon, getting some leather and oak. 4.25

    Taste:
After 15 minutes of warming, partially cupping, and drinking four ounces, I’m getting straight up bourbon county base and a smooth strong bourbon. However, I’m getting very faint fig, and nothing else in terms of the advertised variant flavors. Enjoying the taste, will deduct points in the overall score for this factor. 4.0

    Mouthfeel:
Smooth, rich creamy body, feels at or strong than listed ABV, bourbon strong and lingers joyfully on the finish. 4.25

    Overall:
I’m enjoying the beer, because I love the blended BCBS standard start, but I really struggled to find any figs, graham crackers or other “natural flavors”. Would have been upset if this wasn’t marked down, but this is just another reason why I pretty much stick with regular and coffee at this stage. 3.75

Brewers Notes: Our signature Parabola Imperial Stout achieves new heights in this limited small-batch release. We aged it in an equal selection of rare older-stock barrels for two years, specifically, 14-year Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels and 18-year Sazerac Rye whiskey barrels. These barrels complemented Parabola's classic dark chocolate, cherry and vanilla flavors by imparting hints of stone fruits, fudge, leather and peppery spice. The result cultivates an ultra-smooth mouthfeel for this prodigiously flavorful beer.

Vintage #1, bottle is boxed and was purchased at half time beverages in Mamoraoneck, Ny . Chilled bottle is poured into a snifter. dark cola brown liquid with one finger creamy taupe foam cap, recedes to islands , no lacings

    Aroma is bourbon, leather, tobacco

Taste is bourbon, peppery spice, cinnamon, roast malts, licorice, tobacco, hint of chocolate

Mouthfeel is sultry, velvety, syrupy, bit of heat, boozy, the booziness recedes as the glass warms

    Good beer

I think that trade gave them what they needed; a boost to the third line that should lead to better secondary scoring and a nice two-way player for the 4th line. The addition of a solid 3-4 defenseman would be icing on the cake and likely all that they can fit in now under the cap.

Im fine with the losses, as long as they we are playing well. I ran the ‘Tankathon’ mock draft yesterday and first spin came up Bedard! Oh would that be glorious!

I’ll be back later with some new beers to share. Cheers and congrats on the win, and solid trade.

    Hazelnut Bourbon Barrel Brick Kiln
    12.7% barleywine by Jackie O's

Body pours a black with small initial head and no lacing if consequence. Very low carbonation.

Aromas of the barrel, hazelnuts and light vanilla.

Taste generally follow nose with the addition of cacao notes. The barrel's sweet bourbon flavor is pronounced, but the alcohol is masked. Sipping is advised to contemplate the flavors.

The mouth feel is luxurious and smooth.

Overall a beer that is right up my alley but Advocates seeking a little burn to their bourbon barrel beers ought to venture elsewhere. This Barleywine is an English style in taste and spirit.

    Pipeworks Saddle Up
16oz can 2020 release purchased at Binny's at room temp recently and poured into a Duvel glass at just above fridge temp 11.3% ABV. The beer pours opaque medium brown with light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of tiny bubbles. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mild with bourbon, cherry, barrel and sweet malt. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with subtle cherry, bourbon, oak, vanilla flavors. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. ABV is fairly well disguised with only a slight warming of the tummy to give it away. Overall, very good.

Dogs have been walked and now there are beers to be drunk. Starting with One Punch Lager from New Image Brewing.
Pale yellow color, slight haze. Thin white head.
    Grassy aroma, slight hops.
Little bit of hops in the taste.
    Light-bodied.
Not much to this beer. It would be better on a hot summer day.

another new beer for me this weekend… from Modern Brewery: Rye Barrel-Aged Phenom

    my review:

poured from a 12oz can into a TG DBA tumbler. pours a thick, deep black with not quite a finger of dark brown foam. reminiscent of voodoo’s aphotic series in its deep, dark black appearance. rye whiskey, oak, chocolate, faint vanilla and caramel on the nose. taste follows with an even more pronounced dark chocolate flavor as well as an oaky dry finish complete with a rye whiskey sting. sludgy, thick mouthfeel. not goopy like WW medianoches but very thick with just enough carb to make it enjoyable and lively on the tongue as it passes down the gullet. both this and the bourbon phenom were insanely good. just no frills, massive barrel-aged imperial stouts. may have to seek out more of these.

    4.75, 4.5, 4.75, 4.75, 4.75
    overall: 4.69
    rDev: -1.5%
