Man I feel for any people who can't find proper west coast ipas in their market. Trust and believe that west coast brewers are still making them and doing it very well.

Honestly, I think the style has been refined in the last 15 years and the modern examples are better than most from back in the day. It feels like the rise of boutique aroma hops has allowed brewers to run leaner malt bills that let the hop flavor really shine without getting overly bitter/acrid.

Well maybe not a Hyped beer but certainly very very popular here in the PNW is space dust. While I Love Love Love IPA's I cant stand that swill and cannot for the life of me figure out why it is so popular.

I know it was long after it was a new beer, but I remember having it back in 2013 or so and loving it. Don’t think I’ve seen it on draft in years

I do the opposite. I ENJOY average, because beer is so fkin' sterile now, I can't tell the difference between 90% of the stuff I'm taking on in the brewery. Nothing better than some mediocre beer to remind you the art is still craft.

Sure, if you like the endless barrage of publicly financed, "revitalization" infill in every Rust Belt city in the nation... you'll love their "great" beers.

Basically everything by STBC sucks at this point. Their art used to be local and intentionally crafted, and their beer used to have a wacky array of edginess. Then OneBuffalo showed up and the wankers that own the place went full corporate. Now it's redundant trash. All their bombers are basically syrup oozing from a bottle. Every dark beer they have sucks. 2XIPA is all that is left.

Otherwise, I don't keep much up on what is super-dee-duper kewl in the beer-sphere. So what might be highly-rated, I don't have a clue. The only Heady Topper I've ever had was with a chick.

I understand what you are saying, I would agree yes I appreciate average when at some of these newer breweries who opened for the sole purpose to cash in on the craft beer trend.

I was trying to say that 10 years ago a beer that was “good” was something I would make multiple purchases of. Now if a beer is only “good”. It will be a one time purchase and move on.

“Great” beers are still not the norm but I find there are more available now than at any time in the past.

Heady Topper and Focal Banger are not even close to being overrated. Same goes for Tree House stuff.

Times are changing, but those beers changed the industry.

I agree with you on those particular tree house beers. Haze is good, Sap is great, Green is exceptional. Try those. Also, their classic styles are on point (except for their Ofest style beers).

I think this is a matter of taste, since those beers are all hoppy and well liked by those who like hoppy, like me.

See everyone not diggin’ the hop side of things from The Alchemist and that’s fine but they def make some damn fine dark beers that are under hyped if anything. Pappy’s Porter, Luscious and Beelzelbub are/were all fantastic.

    Seriously?

Says the guy who has Sexual Chocolate as his avatar. Talk about overrated.

Orval is one beer that everyone can agree on. Regardless of what styles we all like. It's an absolute perfection.
