Cavedave inspired me to join this thread.
I've been legally drinking beer since 1975, started with PBR but by the late 70s I was drinking imports and the few "microbrewery" offerings. I married a French woman in 1981, he father turned me on to Belgian beer and one of her brothers in law was a trucker who brought me beers from all over Europe that summer. That pretty much ended any thought of drinking AALs for me. I started homebrewing in 1992 and except for a brief break in 2019 I've never quit homebrewing, though I don't brew as much because I don't drink as much anymore. Also the town I live near now has no homebrewing culture, which I do really miss.
We spend several months every year at our house in France. I've really enjoyed the exploding beer scene in our wine producing area. Oddly the brewers around there are all non French-the biggest(and best) brewery is run by a Belgian dude, and the other small breweries are owned by Brits. Last summer we visited a hop farm near the Atlantic coast, they are currently producing American hops like Chinook, Columbus and Centennial. His hops are sold out before they are even harvested so I'm happy to see some hoppier beers coming to France, and Europe in general, that's an area not traditionally fond of very overly hopped beers Americans have become so fond of.
I've been on BA since 2006, I've seen a lot of changes over the years. There are lots of knowledgeable and friendly people here. I'm glad I hung around here as long as I did.

Nice write-up of yourself. You and I go back a ways with our time since joining this site. We probably interacted a few times in the forums. Although I haven't homebrewed for 6-7 years now I still check into the Homebrewing forum, and that's where I recall seeing many of your posts.

Oh yeah, you were on of the ones whose info I trusted. I have tried to quit homebrewing but I just can't. I have cut it back to a manageable level, but every couple of months I still brew a batch. I quit from mid 2018 until June of 22 because of health and moving across the state. But the health issues were successfully dealt with and I still feel the need to have homebrew on hand in the garage.

Your bio is a pretty interesting story. It’s always cool to get beer intel from places I’ve never been.
    Cheers!

Corky, have you ever had the opportunity to drink beers brewed with those hops? How does the terrior of France impact these American hops?

    Cheers!

Great question, and I don't know that I have or have not. We visited the hop farm, but I don't know who he sells to except one local brewery whose beer he served us. But since I don't know hope amounts and schedules it's pretty hard to know. I do know 2 brewers personally, I'll do some serious studying with them when we go back in May
