I have fond memories of Gordon Biersch, their beer was rock solid, as well as those Garlic Fries. Their location at Aloha Tower in Honolulu was fantastic. The Rock Bottom in Colorado Springs was near my crib. Solid food & some fun beers

Agreed. Not to mention Great Notion and Breakside Brewing up our way.

Maybe there's something about being out West. :sunglasses:

Do they brew their own? Or just a tap house for the Mothership?

I'll be first in line (in my heart) when Breakside and/or Pfriem open up their first brewpub in the SF area.

We had a GB in VA Beach, its long gone - I miss their fries, too. The prices at the GB in Atlanta airport are criminal (the prices of anything in an airport are criminal - I assume they know you're essentially trapped)

This makes me want to check out the Rock Bottom in RVA.

I am big fan of McMenamins and their minimal, yet annoying service philosophy. Just order 3 pints at once and relax.
Portland used to have a Rock Bottom. My kid loved it, but it was terrible to me.espcially in Portland.
Let me explain. A place like Rock Bottom would do crazy business in the suburbs. Same as when Fat Heads came to conquer Portland. Ah the bravado! But they would have done better in Beaverton where fat NFL moo-moo uniform fans are like their place back east.
And yet i still drink and eat at The Ram here in Salem.

The place I was thinking about had the Berlin location right in front of Lowes. The Manchester location was on the north west corner of the Buckland Hills mall and is now The Market Grill.

I remember going to the John Harvard's in Manchester. I think the building is now a Hooters.

Iron Hill certainly has a great food menu. Beers can be hit or miss, but they do have some solid ones out fairly often. Auto Play just came out and that's a fantastic drinker. Russian Imperial is a staple as well. I have a friend that's a brewer there and it's a great stepping stone for them.

Other great thing about Iron Hill is the American Homebrewers Association deals they offer to the card carrying member (20% off food and drink!).

Breakside has a couple breweries, but the main brewery that supports most of the brewpubs is in Milwaukee (south Portland). Same situation with Great Notion. The main production brewery is on the East side of town. I think the Sacramento and South Seattle facilities have their own brewery.

Ex Novo brewing is another place in town that supplies several pubs, but also has another brewery in New Mexico.

Had my first Russian Imperial Stout at a John Harvard’s where Shoppers World used to be in Framingham. I’m guessing 1997 maybe. First time a server explained to me a beer was being served in a smaller glass due to the high ABV.

Iron Hill makes an excellent RIS. I was hoping to try the BBA version they did as a fundraiser for Ukraine, but I missed it by a couple hours.

A BJ’s came to my town in Frederick 10 years ago. I’ve had some decent meals there, place is usually packed on the weekends for dinner. Beers just ok. Never was a big fan of the couple times I went to Gordon Biersch. Iron City has good food and I’ve liked their beers. I think they make a very solid pilsner.

When I lived in Baltimore, I always thought IH was hugely underrated. I used to visit the Lancaster location periodically and was always pretty impressed. Agree that their beers could be hit and miss at times, but they always had enough solid stuff to keep me interested and entertained. Food was a bit spendy I thought, but always pretty good.

Unfortunately, I haven't been there in some years now, but do they still have club membership with a great deal on growler fills if you're a member?
