So this is why they make these?

Once you spend enough time in the Revolution thread, these things just sort of leap out at you.

Oh my goodness, they need to bottle Shin Shin yesterday. I'm an absolute sucker for maple stouts, and I can't think of many I've had that are better than this.

Sounds like it might never get bottled. Cory said something along the lines of the roasting process being much more extensive than any other coffee stout they've done before. Because of that, it's likely to always be very small batch if they do it again.

Likely in the minority and some posts bear it, but I thought the coffee was a bit over the top with Shin Shin. I believe Cory mentioned it was the “highest” roast they’ve ever done with Sump Coffee. It was one of my last pours so my palate could have been fried, but didn’t find it the easiest of pours.

I can see some excitement with the ratings being a new beer and all, but was far from my favorite from the evening.

Also, surprised the kegs have lasted this long given the newness of it. Lasting over a week at 4 kegs total from the start of Stout Week.

It was definitely a coffee bomb and fairly sweet as well due to the maple being regular syrup rather than barrel aged. I personally loved it but I know several people who didn’t, mainly due to the sweetness.

8 Candles is pretty good. Glad I finally got to try it as I don’t really screw with any of the big events/releases.

Shin shin made my pants tight in a certain area, and I don’t mean my waistline. Loved it.

    Opened VW BBT.

Is it very good? Of course. This is still very much BBT. Not significantly different/better than any other batch IMO.

Another potentially inflammatory remark from @Heisenbrew consider me shocked. Hah

It's crazy some of my favorite results from specific barrels have been from otherwise relatively looked down upon brands like Dickel, Jameson, Rebel Yell, Early Times, etc. Even regular EC, which yeah is a little more respected, and also one of my favorite bourbons generally, but adding it to the pile anyway.

Them boutique barrels though, they did their job on the brown water. What life they have left is likely not prime. I've had a good variety of beer aged in "super rare" whiskey barrels that just didn't live up to expectations, so I don't get excited when higher perceived value barrels are mentioned anymore.

Unless madeira is in the mix, especially with barleywine...mmmmmm.

The older barrels are largely dried out due to angels share and not good for aging stouts. I’m guessing past the 12 year mark is where this starts to be an issue as they lose about 2% a year on average. Cory did an interview or podcast years ago and talked about this.

Shin Shin still on tap. I'm approaching double digit pours. You guys need to help me out...my family hasn't seen me in days.

#SundaySips with some Side Project. Was pleasantly surprised by this one. Typically not a big fan of multiple adjuncts because of how the barrel tends to get muted but this is pretty balanced. Chocolate dominates while the almond and vanilla are more subtle. The barrel shows itself in the finish and cuts some of the sweetness. Hope everyone has had a great weekend, cheers!
