I had Nexus Brewing - Imperial Cream Ale at the Nexus Brewery in Albuquerque, NM, and I was pretty impressed by it. I had it on tap, so that may have contributed to the creaminess.

What really stands out is how drinkable it at a staggering 9.3% ABV. Normally you would expect beers that high in ABV to be harsher or burn going down, but this one really is smooth at that ABV.

I really enjoyed the Dogfish Head Wake Up World Wide Stout that was part of The Big Stout Box this year. I saw it today at our local Total Wine, so it should be widely available.

 

I was trying to describe this to a friend last night. My first pass was "Hopslam crossed with Double Nugget Nectar". Thinking on it today I realized it reminded me of Stone Mocha IPA! That was my beer of the year 2016 (?).
Now I don't have a lot of Cream Ale expertise, and really not a big fan of coffee-infused beers. So what gives, either with this one or it's progenitor?
Umami. There, I said it. This is the beer equivalent of eating buttery sauteed mushrooms. Not so much the taste, but the sensation. The 12% doesn't even compute. It is the smoothest beer I ever had.
I drank one last night and still can conjure it up.

 

Von Trapp Schwarz Black Lager. I mean for the style (Schwarzbier) its pretty much a 10/10.

Like last year, I'd say this year's Double Nugget Nectar. Have gone through four 4-packs so far.

 

Rainbow Pulp from Borgeon Brewing. The best hazy IPA I've had so far, and I have had a lot of them. Not too "thick", not too fruity, a just right Goldilocks beer for me.

Triple-Fu! by North Park Beer Company

 

Twin Oast- Oast House Reserve barrel aged stout. Five bucks for a 16oz can that stands up to any non-adjunct BA stout.
