It will be available at their Chicago brewpub…

Those other stouts are normal stouts, DL is not normal.

Dark Lord actually did hit distro in 2005. It it was at Sams and Binny's and a handful of stores around Chicagoland. That said, I think putting it in distro would initially sell really well as you would have lots of people who have heard about it over the years but never bothered to attend DLD or get a bottle. Those people would be excited, but after the first year I think it would kinda of turd it up.

That is unless they change the recipe a bit and get the classic RIS fans back on board with it. Darkness for example is an RIS I will buy once a year, as it is great. That beer made the transition from hype to shelf beer but it still sells well AFAIK.

I don't think they need to change the recipe. It's a unique beer that neckbeards have created a stigma around that I don't think is actually accurate, especially compared to most modern stouts that are far more cloying or even acrid.

The rest of the country who aren't as dialed into beer geek culture would probably be into it without bias, but the festival, first of its kind, works so well for them and is such a good excuse to throw the best bottle share on Earth, why stop now?

They had the process ironed out super smoothly the past few years pre-pandemic. How else can you get full 4-5 bomber allotments to 15k+ people in a day? It's probably more efficient than distribution, even with all the event planning.

$133 extra for exclusive bar/bathrooms/tent does not seem worth it just to cut down on line times. I know many outdoor concerns/festivals have VIP tents like this and you essentially pay more to just have shorter lines at the bar and cleaner bathrooms.

It really depends on what "rare" taps they are talking about here. Are they going to hide all the best variant taps in the deluxe tent? Or will it just be easier to get with shorter lines?

I’m thinking about it, but that $130+ extra buys a lot of good beer at retail. Without details it is really hard to pull the trigger.
-Are they limiting the Deluxe tickets or will that area have long lines like the normal areas if everyone buys Deluxe?
-What are the upgraded taps? Are we talking just more access to vintage DL variants or are we talking about unlimited out of market stuff like Cantillon, KBBS, and Treehouse? Plus you still have the cost of buying the draft beers. -What is the merch? Am I getting a full dark lord costume? Is it some garbage tees and koozies with an upgraded lanyard and 4 pack holder? (My guess is a poster, tasting glass pair and Dark Matter coffee beans aged in DL barrels plus a DL tee and maybe a FFF axe opener..)
-is the metal show different from the one everyone else gets to hear? I guess if you are at the fest for the concert being closer to the stage is a big perk.

I just don’t see the value of Deluxe if I’m going for half the day and having a few drafts unless there are guaranteed top 50 non FFF beers, guarantees short lines and worthwhile merch. Sadly all these things aren’t confirmed so it is a fairly large risk for what could be a lame perk.

The website says deluxe taps are “rare 3 Floyds beer” so I would not expect any deluxe taps being brewed by anyone beside 3 Floyds.

FFF would probably have to share a portion the $133 to any outside breweries contributing exclusive deluxe tappings and I’m sure they’d rather keep all of it to themselves.

Doubt that another brewery would have access to that $133. You still get charged for any drafts you purchase in the Deluxe tent, right? It would all come off the draft price they paid to purchase kegs.

I can’t think of any rare FFF beers I missed out on or that are worth the $133. Would a pre Handjee, Vanilla DL be cool to try? Sure. Just not for that much.

Yeah it won't be any guest drafts, it will likely be vintage DL variants, DL vintages, and other vintage BA FFF beers. The question is will those also be available to the plebs outside of the Deluxe tent just with longer lines?

I bet FFF doesn't even think it's worth $133 more they only made it $333 so that when people buy the 2 ticket max they can charge $666 because they're SO DAMN METAL!
