At Savor as well (and occasionally the smashing of the giveaway bottles as drunk people left).

I like them when they are well positioned around the place and used as the menu/taplist (so I don’t have to try and look over someone’s shoulder when I’m at the bar to decide what to order).

My pet peeves are kids and dogs in breweries. But also breweries that don't allow kids and dogs.

It's an internal struggle that causes me to drink more...so the brewery wins either way.

    1. Breweries that won't cut me even a small break on cans to go when I do them the favor of cutting out the distributor. If I come to the taproom and give the brewer the opportunity to sell me their product directly with no middleman, they should do me the courtesy of selling it for a couple bucks less than I would pay at my local store. Not doing this is simply disrespectful, in my opinion, and as a result I won't buy packaged beer from a brewery if I can get the same beer at my local store for the same price.

    2. Breweries that don't serve half pours.

    3. Breweries that don't make any effort to make themselves accessible by non-automobile transportation. Drinking and driving don't mix, but too many breweries seem all too happy to depend on customers who don't have any option but to drive away after having a few. In order to make it possible for people to enjoy their products without endangering others, breweries should be working with their municipalities to make walking, biking, and public transit viable options for reaching their doors. True, not every brewery is in a location with good public transit, but I want to at least see some bike racks out front and the surrounding sidewalks and any nearby bus stops clear of snow in the winter.

The results of these sorts of "yes/no" arbitrary brewery rules is that around here at least there are now veterinarian offices and boarding kennels, as well as many day-care centers and playgrounds, that don't allow beer drinking!

    Civilization is breaking down...

@FBarber that one would irk me a bit as well.

My biggest pet peeve is mediocre breweries selling their 4 packs (16 oz cans) for $20+. I don’t know if I’ve seen a 4 pack from Ever Grain or New Trail that’s been over $18 and their beer is some of the best in PA.

And it's not just the distributor. They've cut out both of the other two tiers - wholesale and retail AND, on top of that, shipping/transportation become your expense, not the brewery's or the wholesaler's.

I am similar to OP in mine. You would expect beer to be fresh at the brewery. I won't name the well known Vermont brewery that had a huge stack of warm, old cans for sale at regular price next to the checkout. My local pulls them before they get that old. Only noticed this happen that one time, but still...

We had a little Westie named Winston--I put some beer in a dish and he refused to drink it. Dogs are sociable, but only up to a point. Or perhaps he just didn't like the beer (it was Iron City).

Just a guess, but probably that they’re willing to invest in sinks, dishwashers and/or staff.

Yes, riding a bike after having a few can still get you into the same trouble as driving a car after a few.

I agree with whoever earlier said charging the exact same amount for cans that you would pay in the store. Other than that I don't really go enough anymore due to time and financial constraints (damn kids) to have but so many complaints, and most of my experiences have been good.

There is a brewery scheduled to open much closer to me than the others in my area this year, I will hopefully make it in there from time to time.

Mine is a variation on @FBarber’s post. Breweries that keep their beer-to-go behind the bar, counter, so I have to ask for what I want without getting to see the canning dates. It forces me into a situation where I have to actually tell them I don’t want the beer because I think it is too old. This always leads to some tedious lecture on freshness, refrigeration, etc. and an eye roll or two. Then I become the asshole for not wanting to buy an eight month old pale ale.

Let me rifle through the fridge, choose what I want and be an asshole in different, more interesting ways please.

I don't want to derail the thread, so I don't want to get into a long discussion about this, but there's simply no comparison between the risks involved with maneuvering a 20 pound vehicle at 20 mph and a 4,000 pound vehicle at 40 mph. Can both potentially lead to harm? Sure. Do they even belong in the same discussion, from a public health and safety perspective? No.

    Was not debating anything.

The law says riding a bike drunk is the same as driving a car. Be prepared to suffer the some consequence if you get stopped on a bike. You are asking for more bike racks to ride to a brewery. At the end of the day you could still be drunk driving. Yes, I get that a bike has much less chance of doing damage and really probably more to the rider but it is still illegal and depending on the state can be considered dui

+1 on no short pours (I don't want pints of your untried and untrue offerings. and if your beers are any good, then I want to get into more of them and the shorty allows me to do so).

The person behind the sticks having zero knowledge of what they're pouring. I get that these folks may have other jobs there and are just looking to earn a few dollers by picking up the Friday night bartending gig, but c'mon now.

Having things up that I don't know about because tomorrow is 'update the menu' day.

    Non-transparent pricing.
    Non-transparent beer styles.
    Non-transparent ABVs.

A clearly unsanitary tap set up.

When the menu doesn't tell the whole story. I'm looking at your list and it says you've got 16 beers but I'm looking at your 12 handle tap tower. Oh, 4 of the things on the menu are can pours and I still can't ascertain which ones they are? Fail.

    I could go on here...
