Founders KBS - Chocolate Cherry

Well yeah except CBS isn’t a KBS variant, so…..

Starting Sunday morning with this treat. Initial thoughts, same medium/thick mouthfeel you would expect from any KBS variant. Very much milk chocolate and coffee with surprisingly subtle cherry. Reminds me a bit of Deth by Cherries from a couple years ago. Decent barrel presence, vanilla and some char. Cherry is not medicinal in any sense of the word. Overall, very good. 4.25/5

 

It’s still around although sparsely. In regards to the coffee holding up, I’m pleased with it for the age at this point. Cheers.

Hah! Finally showed up here! The thing is, we didn't get much of it. In fact the bottle shop split up the four-packs so they could sell the beers individually, limit one bottle per person. So I got my limit.

 

After dry-February, this will be my first beer. It'll probably knock me on my ass.

 

Similarly I was only able to find this locally at a bottle shop selling singles for like $10. At the time I thought the price was way too high but also didn’t realize that would potentially be my last time seeing it.

Not sure why the distribution is so limited compared to the other variants unless Founders was just kind of testing the waters here to see if it’s worth re-brewing with expanded production.

February is over! Today is March 1st!

 

Yup, I'm drinking the KBS now, it's kicking my ass, and it's pretty damn good.

 

I'm still reluctant to even grab a single. Since it's made with "Cherry Extract".

 

I didn't find it medicinal, which is often the issue with cherry beers. The coffee is more prevalent.

 

I picked up a four pack and it didn’t disappoint!

 

I like it more than I thought I would, mainly because the cherry is not front and center.

 

We finally got it in Arkansas. I found it very coffee forward with lots of chocolate. The cherry is definitely there, but if I didn't know it had cherry in it, I may not have identified it. I'm going to stash one or two away and see what happens in a year or two when the coffee starts to fade a bit.

 

Yeah, the cherry is not overpowering and quite tame. Not artificial or medicinal tasting. This was better and more complex than I expected. A good variant of KBS.

 

I enjoyed it, but this particular variant didn't taste like a KBS to me. Probably my least favorite variant.
