My brewery pet peeve is that brewery pet peeve threads are now mainly about taproom environments. Remember when "brewery" meant a production facility first and foremost rather than a bar?

At least the bean bag toss game is relatively quiet.

No. Was that, like, during prohibition?

I kid, I kid, but in all honesty it seems like we are a food 2 decades into the era of most breweries being primarily defined by their taproom and production only breweries being the minority (although still making the majority of beer). And I think that this is also a return to the norm throughout human history and that the era of the brewery being nothing more than a beer making factory was the aberration

You might be exaggerating the importance of Jenga and drag shows to monasteries in the Middle Ages.

Or the chalk gets smudged or it's so small it can only be read from the bar. Never seen the ticker thing. We could compile a list of how many half-assed ways brewpubs and bars communicate what's actually on tap.

I continue to gather evidence that what my Sunday school teacher called "real church" may not have had the historical basis I was lead to believe...

Oh, and for @zid 's edification, my biggest brewery pet peeve is when the packaging says something along the lines of "drink fresh!" but there's no packaging date. Why? Just why?

I’m shocked how frequently I need to look up the abv of a beer on this website because it’s not listed on a can/bottle. This happens to me in liquor stores, not breweries, but still, it’s ludicrous.

Breweries that change labels every year/season. Looking at you Dogfish Head.

The automatic 20% added is just too sneaky.. i really appreciate when wait staff or a bartender at least mention it so that you are aware. But it shouldn't be up to them either.

I'm not sure how they work, never been a part of one.

What about breweries like Hill Farmstead and Tree House? Or others that you have to go out of the way to get and cost much more...I know it isn't members only but almost in a sense, maybe?

Just adding I know more goes into than that but I just think it is an interesting topic :beers: cause I feel the same way about beer but some places sort of go against that, in a sense, from a certain perspective.

Not a brewery, but a restaurant by me has one. It was $25 to join about 6 or 7 years back when we joined. You get your own personalized mug that hangs in the bar. Any beer put in said mug, which is 16 oz, is $4 (Bud/Coors Light, or Miller Lite is $3.) These days its usually Kane Head, Guinness, or Hacker Oktoberfest. Not a bad deal.

I see that as very different. Where breweries are located can be very much out of their control. Establishing a members only club is well within their control.

But choosing not to distribute their beer and making everyone come to them is a decision well within their control as well...When you have the size, means and capacity to distribute and don't is when, from my perspective, it gets to creating exclusivity. This obviously more applies to TH than HF who is a smaller operation and does distribute their kegs. Not sure on TH for that one.
