I'm going to be in the New Haven area tomorrow for work. I'm not going to have time to hang out and drink at a brewery, but is there one that I should stop into to pick up something to go? Or is there a beer store that's worth popping into? And what should I be on the lookout for? Specifically, it'd be great to grab something with limited distribution to other areas (in other words, I don't want something like East Rock, which I can grab at any store near me).

And by "New Haven," I mean I'm at Sallys.

You will be VERY close to Armada Brewing and their new location. (5 min drive)

Pretty solid beers all around. Open at noon tomorrow. Always has cans to go.

They distribute a little in CT. Not sure they leave the State.

You'll be pretty close to twelve percent, I think that fits what you're looking for. Not sure if the Eredita/Wunderkammer collab is still available, but that'd be a must grab for me.

The wine thief is a pretty good store close to Sally’s

If your return home is 91N and can make ~20 min detour to Cheshire, Counter Weight will have two different Czech Pils and a 3.8% Zwickel for to-go options (4 packs).

Since you’ll be at Sally’s, Wine Thief on Crown st. New Bottle Shop is worth a stop too. New England Brewing (cans to go) and Amity Wine are a hop, skip, and jump away as well.

    Enjoy the Apizza....

NEBCO is not far at all and looks like it has 7 different can options today only one of which ever sees CT distribution. NEBCO is 12 oz cans. They also still fill growlers (usually 5 options or so of the 20ish beers on tap). You will find Amity Wine and Liquor about 1/10 of a mile from NEBCO (same road, same side of the road).

Thanks for all the help here. The only real time constraint is beating the snow home.

Seconding East Rock for lagers and thirding or fourthing NEBCO for anything else.

    NEBCO is the obvious choice.

I shall disappoint you all when I report that post-Sally’s (best in New Haven, imo), I had to head back due to time constraints. I did have the NEBCo pils at the apizza spot. A small win

You were a fool to have ventured so far without setting foot into NEBCo. You will rue the day.

I gotta get in there. I was too long at my work thing plus traffic on the way down set the course for the day. Glad I got the apizza though. Worth it.

Sally's is so goddamn good, definitely my favorite of the 3 main New Haven spots. Expanding the scope a bit I've gotta say I'm team Zuppardi's though. Both make my top 5 all time for sure

It goes beyond the city of New Haven and to all the Havens though. East Haven, North Haven, West Haven (Zupps), Fair Haven and East Haven. All good Apizza.

Sally’s, regrettably, is the one NH spot I haven’t hit. Love Pepe’s and Modern tho.

    Modern for the win.

I haven't lived in CT for 30 years now but I still now the address and phone number (and exactly where when coming back down the 91 or 95 corridors I should be calling in for to go pies for them to say '20 minutes' and it be that).

    And NEBCO.

Zuppardis Apizza in West Haven for the win, since 1934.
