How was the bottle share at the taproom? Worth going?

They have a happy birthday “brownie” stout coming - 12% with cocoa nibs and vanilla. $17 for 2 12oz cans. I think it’ll be pouring at that Binny’s event tomorrow.

I had a blast. It was a cluster... for the first half hour but they made some changes on the fly, and after that it was great. I tried at least 40 great beers and meads. People were really generous with pours. Some unnamed stouts from Shawn pouring from a magnum. Glad I had a dd! I sobered up in time to work this morning! I would go again in a heartbeat.

Pure hater-ville here...but if you had 40 beers, you maybe actually have a reasonable opinion about 5 of those beers.

I mean, people don't do a share because they believe they will get the most unbiased opinions about the beers they try. They do a share to try more/new things or to try great beer, or to 'party'. And, ideally, if you know you're going to try some bangers, or beers you really wanted to form an opinion on before you chase it, you'll still try to do your best to cleanse your palate before you have that beer.

Your experience is muted from a wrecked palate, but most people still usually know a good beer from a bad one. And the best ones still seem to come out on top in the aggregate.

40 were 1 and a half oz or so on average, or even less than an oz in many cases. Yes my palate was pretty wrecked at the end
Exactly! Well put. Of the 40, some were less than an oz where my buddies gave me half of his small pour or vise versa.
Yes my palate got wrecked, but as mentioned, I could still tell good beers from ones I did not like. Vanilla Rye was way past its prime, not bad, but a shell of its former glory, but it was awesome to try again, so kudos to whoever brought that. Trump and Pump, DL in wine barrels is bad on any kind of palate!
I had wanted to try LPK for years after a guy at Dark Lord day 2017 turned me down when I asked for a pour. It did not disappoint. I have not chased beer for the last few years as I moved more to bourbon. So I was not familiar with many I tried but enjoyed almost all. Corporate Ladder keeps killing it!
If you wanted to write detailed tasting notes on a few beers, this was not the forum, but if you wanted to try lots of things ( over 200 bottles brought I think) and have a good time, this event nailed it!

My experience was the same as yours, basically. Were you hanging around the makeshift table up front near where everyone was walking in/out? The group I was with started that and it turned out to be a great place to just hang and try whatever you wanted. Agree on Vanilla Rye; if anyone still has a bottle drink it now because it is not the beer it once was.

Yesterday was rough. I haven't drank like that in quite a while, and yes by the end my palate was completely wrecked. But it was a ton of fun and I hope they do it again.

Event was excellent at Binny’s. Had a chance to talk with Evan for a while. Personable and very nice guy. Sounds like Elmhurst could be a little closer to June.

A few other details if anyone is interested:

    - low turnout. < 100 people?
    - layout was a little strange. Not much space to eat / very few tables, especially since people stashed their jackets on the perimeter barrels.
    - when I arrived (~30 minutes after start), there was one very funny line for the various eunoias, while Arabesque, Minutiae and 1&2 were being completely ignored.
    - after your three BA pours of 3oz (seemed like generous pours), you could purchase $8 tickets for more pours, including their birthday stout. This was a vaguely confusing system, since the tickets were sold outside of the event room. You could purchase non-BA pours from the bar.
    - at some point, they stopped selling tickets, but I didn’t hear them announce that. People seemed to be leaving right after their 3 pours. So… lots of open bottles, no way to “purchase” them. I behaved myself, but it was basically an opportunity for many free pours if you asked nicely.
    - food was fine. A fancy ham and cheese sandwich with some chips, and a confusing “tapas” bar with hummus and cucumbers. And cake!
    - a P3 pint glass to go on your way out (not really communicated)
    - you could purchase cans of HBD for $9 each and 4-packs of their anni IPA to go.

Friday’s cellar sale is on Oznr only starting at 5 pm. That should be interesting.

I think a part of that was because the sign at the non-Eunoia table mislabeled Arabesque as b2 lol. It was actually b1 (I checked the label on the bottles they were pouring)…and it was spectacular. Nice event, food was solid, overall better bang/buck than Minutiae day imo.

I bought their anniversary triple IPA and am enjoying it much more than expected. This can is bold, full, and not very sweet, with a little bit of spice / alcohol on the finish. Almost a little bit savory. Recommend.
