I was hoping to piggy-back another thread in this sub-forum but couldn’t find anything appropriate so apologies in advance.

Was hoping one of my SoCal BA brethren can point me in the right direction. I’m visiting the area next week, unfortunately, because of a death in the family. I know there’s a Total Wine nearby (LAX/LBC) I went to when I was there in ‘17 that was pretty good but this time I’m staying in Los Alamitos (closer to Anaheim) and was hoping there was a store pretty close that I could just fill my hotel room with for 3 days. Not bringing a suitcase, really (don’t think) there will be any galavanting around, no brewery hopping…just looking for some decent beer to drink while I/we grieve. Thanks in advance. I’m mostly a lager, an old school IPA and a stout guy, if that helps.

In Los Alamitos, you’ll be between the Total Wines in Long Beach and Huntington Beach. There’s also Mr. Kegs in Huntington Beach. If you make it to Anaheim there’s Windsor across from Bottle Logic.

I’m guessing Bottle Logic would have stuff to go? I think maybe I’ll follow them on IG until I go. Thanks for the info!

Bottle logic has a pretty good selection to go and windsor has a great variety of beers to go. Will defiantly have plenty of lagers, stouts, and ipa and the people working there are very knowledgable

Which airport are you flying into? If you’re going into LB, Bottlecraft is right by the airport; if you happen to be going to John Wayne, Windsor is pretty close.
Otherwise you would probably get fresher stuff from Trader Joe’s than at Total Wine (if looking for a “store”).

There is one place you have to try for dinner in Los Al, Brew Kitchen Ale House. They make all of their food fresh and have an excellent beer list. All craft and local brews with a few Euro beers throw in. They have Pliny on tap pretty often.
If you want some killer seafood The Original Fish Co. is right down the street. Little pricey but well worth it. They have a couple of local beers on tap. Usually a Beachwood beer which is always a good choice.

If you’re going to go to Mr Kegs, then why not stop at Beachwood pizza and beer, RiiP, and green cheek sunset beach. Forget, total wine and more. You’ve got four good places to stop for bottles and cans. That is all.

I’m flying into LAX. Last time I flew in there I went to the TW that’s on Carson.

If you land at LAX depending on Arrival El Segundo Brewing is worth checking out on the way to your destination.

It's an 8 minute drive from LAX . Check them out on Instagram

El Segundo is a good brewery but depending on what time you land I would suggest to try and get to Los Alamitos and then make your way to one of the establishments that were suggested. The LAX area sucks and the freeways can be a nightmare.

I’m flying in pretty early and the service is just a few hours after I get in. I’m gonna just be rolling with the punches I suppose most of the time I’m there.

If you’re taking the 405 from LAX to Los Alamitos, The Wine Country in Long Beach or even Bottlecraft might be your best bet if you want to get your beers before you get to your destination. Both spots are just off the freeway and gets you back on the road rather quickly. I’d opt for The Wine Country because of the selection. They got a good mix of local, out-of-state and international stuff. Most breweries aren’t open early so places like Wine Country or other bottle shops might be your best bet.

Yup, this is exactly what I'd recommend for that route. Swing by The Wine Country. They have a website if you want to get a sense of the selection:

You guys (and gals?) are the best. I’m getting in around 9:30a, so Wine Country is definitely an option and maybe at some point I can stop into Bottle Craft. My sister is gonna have a car and she likes good beer also. I’ve been to a Bottle Craft in Virginia Beach and it was a good store, plus they spun crowlers, which in my situation might be best. Either way, I have that or the Windsor/Bottle Craft option and of course, Total Wine. I saw a few close liquor stores on Google but I ain’t gonna fuck with those.

I don't believe the Bottlecraft in Virginia Beach is the same as the one out here, and I'm almost certain they don't fill crowlers. They do have a very good can selection, which maybe someone can verify, but it's for on premise consumption only.

Wine Country is by far your best option for beers to go. However, the Total Wine in the LB Towne Center has a very well stocked assortment of Bottle Logic beers and is very close to Los Alamitos. I'll also give US Liquor a plug since they're closer to Los Al than Wine Country.

As @ADfan mentioned, Brew Kitchen Ale House is a must stop if you're looking for a sit down spot to grab lunch or dinner with a good selection of lagers and almost always have something from RR.

Thanks! The TW I went to on Carson, which I’m assuming is the one you’re talking about, had a very good selection when I went there 5 years ago. I’m not usually a huge fan of TW when it comes to local beer or freshness but that was definitely one of the better TWs I’ve been to. Plus, I remember it being relatively convenient which helps.

Based off your suggestions, if there’s any chance of a sit-down meal and I get any input, I’ll definitely suggest this place.

Edit: Ok, that place has Rothaus Pils on tap. That’s a place that knows beer! Shiiiiit…and Pliny too. Yeah, lol, this place works.

Don't count Trader Joes out either . They always have Pizzza Port , Society and MadeWest singles Freshies all day.
You can always take six packs apart...ya know.....a single to drink on way back to LAX

Thank you for leading me to this place. Nick the bartender is a good dude, this tasted fantastic (first time I had Pliny on tap) and I’m sipping a Bottle Logic Space Trace as I type this. Definitely had some decent beer while I’ve been here and I appreciate all the advice.

I know that bar you made it to Brew Kitchen. Sounds like you had a great time. Their beer list never disappoints. I hope your trip was a success.

It was good. Just happy to see family, to mourn, and have beer I liked while I was there. I had some Bottle Logic black rice lager and Smog City pils I particularly liked.
