Thanks. I honestly am unsure of the last time I was in Harrisburg. Maybe 2007 when Tröegs released Scratch #1.

That Yuengling is a relic. I'm sure age did it no wonders. I'd drink it, no alcohol or hops for preservation.

WBAYDN cross post - one of my favorite bocks (well, doppelbock in this case) of all time....just an incredible beer!

Several other of those beers are older than the Yuengling one - I plan to drink them!

What makes it a "Triple" Bock?

Point taken. I was making an off the cuff remark on my impression of taste and mouthfeel to regular bocks, not doppelbocks, and without considering ABV. :flushed:
In any event, it is very good beer!

I get what you're saying, but Traditional Bock and Maibock have a similar ABV range -- don't let a beer's color lull you into complacency!

Thank you for your advice!

Gee . . . all this bock talk is making me thirsty for a doppelbock. Best make a run to the store!

Always proud to be of service to fellow beer drinkers.

(yes folks, once again we're dancing along the lines of sarcasm and parody -- but no one really knows one another's experiences, do we?)

Enjoying my first Ayinger Maibock purchased two weeks ago. I am getting notes of honey from the malt base and it is hopped up more than anticipated lending to a prickly finish. The mouthfeel is full and extremely smooth which i find satisfying. Another nice beer from Ayinger!
    Cheers!

Are you sure that's hops and not alcohol? I just made notes on a second sample and was a little turned off by big, peppery and hot alcohol. Just not as smooth as I expect a Maibock to be.

Baron Von Zorn Dopplebock at Fat Head’s

Poured from tap at the brewery, the body is a light brown and small initial head. Scant lacing.

Nose is slight, a very light malt.

Taste is sour cherry, raisin and light caramel. Dry finish with a bit of the ABV at the very end.

Mouthfeel is okay with good carbonation.

A dry, crisp doppelbock on tap only. Cheers.

OK. I am making a trip to Hershey very very soon.:grin::beer:

I would also purchase a case of Cultivator every spring, if I could find it. And if not, I would try to hunt down 6-packs. I was so bummed when they stopped bottling it.

Yeah, Celebrator in on the light side for Bocks and especially Doppelbocks. The very light side.

If I recall, the Hofbräu Maibock (7. ... 2? 3?) also has more alcohol than Celebrator.

    Spaten Optimator

All of the examples of folks enjoying Bocks, Doppelbocks, and Maibocks and the fact that it is Lent and therefore "Doppelock Season" :grinning: motivated me to finally crack open my last bottle of Spaten Optimator. Its best by date was back in October, but it appears to have held up reasonably well. Rich (and sweet) bready malts with caramel, toffee, and figs. And some semi-sweet chocolate. There was also a metallic note in there as well, unfortunately. Maybe due to age?

Optimator tends to be a shade too sweet for my preferences for a Doppel, but I do enjoy it as a change of pace now and again. If I can find it, that is.
