What do you get when a nerdy biologist buys a one gallon beer kit? 12 years later, starting on my third composition notebook (i.e., lab books) filled with notes of beverages (mostly beers, but a few forays into the mead, cider and braggot arenas) successfully (and a few not so good) brewed. Of course the science side of me does the typical experimental process (keep all ingredients the same except one ... typically changing the hops or yeast). The 1-gallon kit has morphed into a closet full of "stuff". And since my academic training was in aquatic invertebrates (bugs), my brews are called Dragonflylady Brews.

Cheers to curiosity and to the scientists, otherwise we'd be drinking real swill. We'll look forward to your experienced comments in the forums. It sounds like the Homebrewing forum is right up your alley, but enjoy them all.

Man I wish I'd taken the bio route in school and gone for brewing as a career. Welcome and chip in often as I'm sure many would appreciate your view and thoughts!

I love honey, so I’m a fan of mead but haven’t been able to enjoy a glass of braggot as of yet.
I hope to see some scientific beer posts from you in the future.
    Cheers!

I tried making brag got once- it was not to my taste (too sweet without enough complexity). would love to try one in a brewery to see what it is supposed to taste like.

I have been curious about the style. I don’t know how much honey is used, or where it used in the process but it seems like a lot of sugar to convert.
