Eli Fish BA Will It? 18 months in Willett barrels, then 4 months in stainless steel. The label is jacked up, saying it’s 12 oz and was aged 4 months in glass, not stainless steel, after the wood. Whatever.

I think this is their best BA imp stout yet. Hell, I might end up ranking this even higher than I already did. I hope they have more bottles. If not, that will be very sad indeed.

DFH definitely knows how to do big beers well IMO. I have a whole cellar shelf dedicated to them. I even keep a Higher Math in the special beer fridge.

I brought a 2018 Rusty Nail for the bottle share at Mortalis today. Crazy changes. All cinnamon bomb. The coffee Dark Star 2018 I brought a few weeks ago didn’t seem to hold up much better. The coffee died, the barrel got acrid…I think the B-Bombs age best.

Im back with an imperial stout from Ohio. This is Jackie Os, Champion Ground Impy Stout. 11.8% brew with coffee and coconut added, plus bourbon barrel aging. got this in a swap with @Beer_Economicus Thank you!! The beer has been in my cellar for about 8 months or so.

    Onto my review:

Im sampling a cellar temp 12.7fl oz bottle poured into my snifter. Bottle date is 2022 .
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with no light passing through my glass. ONly minimal beige head foams up on a densely packed covering, this fades to almost nothing very soon after the pour.
Aroma is rich with malt notes, roast coffee grounds and dark chocolate come through the strongest with roasted notes and definitely decent dose of coconut. Scents are fairly balanced, but the coffee dominates the nose. No hops here and the ABV is hidden as well.
First sip reveals a rich smooth textured beer with medium to thick body. Carbonation is fine and tingly across my palate.
Flavor is malt driven but not really sweet, I get dark chocolate and roasted malts, some rich bourbon notes and hints of brown sugar and the finish reveals some sweet coconut. The coffee flavor is much more muted than the aroma is.
Still no hop character on this one and ABV is hidden.
I am enjoying this imperial stout from a brewery that definitely knows how to make em.
If you like coffee imperial stouts and also coconut, this one is for you.
    4.42 in the BA DB

Honestly? I did not care for it. The golden aspect of it seemed to push it into some dessert-level barleywine profile. There was too much sweetness, maybe a tad on the line of cloying, and a bitter note poking in the background.

Higher Math is one of my favorite DFH beers. Fresh it was a hot mess nbut with years it was a chocolate cherry bomb. I might have one sitting still but I know I opened three. Keep thinking I will find these in the wild but never seems to happen.

    Enjoy

Try playing this on the jukebox three times in a row. It almost worked in SC just off i95. I was successfully annoying my aunt, who nearly cried laughing when the waitress asked me to PLEASE stop.

Dammit! I should've slammed it straight from the bottle, somewhere on a random street corner. For a full extreme beer experience! Oh well... :heavymetal::triumph::heavymetal:

    Outstanding beer!

Double Stack on Tavour right now. Might be my favorite non-barrel aged stout ever

i have bought that thing twice since we get it here every now and again. it's good and the smell tht comes out when you pop it open is alll maple drenched pancake, but drinking a whole pint to yourself is probably not a good idea:sweat_smile:

The fact that you like it says a lot about how good it is. Not really your style. Being from the northeast, maple syrup is one of the few adjuncts that I really like. I’ve had mostly bad ones that are produced elsewhere, but Great Notion know wtf they’re doing.

Speaking of which. Not sure what flavor is pulling out of here, but it’s not maple.

Having had some recent disappointing aged Fremont experiences, and having run out of a normal daily drinker, here I am with a 2019 BA chocolate, vanilla, maple Dark Star. Pulling chocolate on the nose, maple syrup in the taste, and a medium to thin mouthfeel. I think it is now a definite trend that BA Dark Star (at least the coffee and this) do not improve with time. If you like cinnamon, the Rusty Nail change was great. As I really don’t, it wasn’t.

This is enjoyable, but it lost more than I imagined it would.
