Haven't seen a post on them in a while. Can I just walk in on a Friday and have lunch at Burger District and walk away with cans? Their website impresses me as out of date (but maybe it's just clunky). Instagram promos beer releases but doesn't always have a current list of what's available from what I can tell. Instagram still says to call to order but just want to make sure I can order once I am there. Thanks all.
You can 100% just walk in, have burgers, however many pours, and grab cans at any point. They don't keep their online menus 100% updated, but the last time I went it was a case of their Instagram post not mentioning a couple imperial IPA they did actually have in addition to the stuff listed in the post, so that was actually a nice surprise. I'd check their most recent IG posts, where every other day or so they'll mention what they have to-go. Highly recommended spot. Awesome burgers and their beers have always been great without ever getting much hype.
The call to order is a relic of COVID era ordering when their beer would sell out entirely from phone orders. It hasn't been that way for a while. If you like spicy food, I recommend the Buffalo burger!
Burger and a beer is a good time. I’m going to give a shout out to the mushroom burger. I’ve found that their beers are strong and their flights are generous. If you can swing a DD, that’s a special time.
Not to be a downer, but put me in the "not as impressed" with the D96 camp. They came out of the gates hot and were able to ride the EQ coattails back when EQ made better beer. Went up there about a year ago and had a less than stellar experience. Owner was yelling at staff, our server was clearly flustered and dropped a tray of flights, just a generally uncomfortable experience and we were one of the only groups there. Even the staff didn't know what was on tap because their list was outdated too. Their beers are solid, but I no longer seek them out. Maybe just a bad experience has soured my overall outlook, but I feel like they've put too much emphasis on hype and not enough on product.
I can’t help but see District 9 NYHC when I read this! IYKYK If you’re an owner of a brewery and you are yelling at staff you won’t make it far in life. Try the corporate world dipshit. You run a fucking place who sells beer. Literally nothing to yell about or helping society. You could disappear from this earth and it would have 0 negative impact. We had always wanted to check out their stuff too.
Really sorry that you had that experience. I can definitely understand it souring your opinion of the place. I don't know John (the owner) super well, but we recognize each other and he's always struck me as a decent guy. Some of the servers have been there for a really long time, so I always assumed that they were treated well. Many of them stuck with the business through the COVID shutdowns. I used to live really close to D96 and would go there often. I moved an hour away so stopped going as often, but I would still stop in when I was in the area. One time we were there a server said it's been a while and commented on how big my son had gotten. It felt nice to be recognized even after been gone for so long. I've actually seen a server drop a tray of flights on three separate occasions. I chalk this up to their flights just being 4 miniature stemless tulips and for whatever reason they never got holders made for them.
I had a great experience today. I drove over from CT for lunch. Got there around 12:45. Sat at the bar. Whole area was busy, but food seemed to be coming out fast. I ordered a flight and a burger. All four beers were very good to better (Koslch, Stout, 2 6.5% NEIPAs). They has over 10 beers on tap. Burger (Buffalo) was delicious. Service was attentive. No one was yelling at anyone. I got a case to go and was back on the road by my 1:30 call. I would gladly do it again.
We made our first visit yesterday and must have overlapped with you. Agree on all points - had the kolsch and pale ale - really enjoyed both. Food was good too. We really only ended up there because none of the other options in the area (Drowned Lands, IA, Marlowe, etc) open for lunch on Friday, but based on our experience we'd definitely go back again in the future.
You guys gave me a real craving for a BL burger. I had a free Sunday so I made the trip down for lunch and brought my son to see his grandparents.
Sorry to bump this one. I’ll be in that area tomorrow and plan to stop by for lunch. Any good craft beer stores in that area to grab cans?
Cable Beverage right down the road on route 304. They have great prices, but very unorganized. Make sure you check dates.
Man, I haven’t been there in years but that’s always the way they’ve been described. I guess it works for them .
assuming you are coming from NJ on the GSP>Pallisades. Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars in Boonton (right off 287) is probably the best bet or Gary's on 23 in Wayne. those are the two best retail stores in NNJ, both of them not far from D96. As mentioned earlier, Cable doesn't really refrigerate anything and it's very disorganized.
Burger Loft's mushroom burger is my favorite, too. My wife and I will sometimes drive 45 minutes up there just to have one. The beer is generally excellent. Definitely worth the trip!
I agree on cables problems, but I got Rip Medianoche, HVB when it was cool, and Bissell all fresh, all refrigerated (well not the stout), but I follow their Instagram and happened to have the chance to do the D96 and IA run.
