Now before nap time I'm having a Guinness Foreign Extra Stout which I've somehow never tried before.

It's decent and much more interesting than normal guinness, but subjectively I think I still prefer regular Guinness Extra due to some potential oxidation

    1) Klosterbrauerei Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel (7.1%): A German Doppelbock with flavors of brown bread, caramel, toasted bread and grains with hints of dark fruit. Yeasty, dry finish.
    versus
    2) Weihenstephaner Korbinian (7.4%): A German Doppelbock with flavors of brown bread, caramel, grains. Bread and dark fruit off the end. Some cocoa. Mildly sweet. (Mismatched the two blind)

    Winner:
    1) Klosterbrauerei Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel:
Been looking forward to do this comparison for a while. Weihenstephaner is one of my favorites and haven't tried Andechs until now. These are ultimately both extremely similar and don't think I could differentiate them blind. Korbinian is wonderful and one of the best. Possibly slightly more cocoa flavor here. Andechs has a touch more dark fruit flavor complexity and German yeast. Andech wins by a hair. I was hoping to bring Ayinger into the mix, but couldn't find a single. I still think Andech would win. Both of these are top shelf German Doppelbocks.

...had another good mid-morning gym workout today...decided to up my calorie and mileage goals as I seem to make my old ones easily enough with just two gym visits...inhabiting the 'Fortress of Solitude' at the moment, replenishing my brutally deleted alcohol calories and soothing my ears with old jazz CD music...also mind-prepping myself for a new recipe for supper: steak rancheros...got the meat sliced up and covered in dry spices and resting in the fridge until I break out the cast iron skillet for the actual cooking later this evening...Oscar 'The Sun King' certainly liked the raw solomillo bits I fed him...

...I agree they're both good...I loved Sam Adam's 'Doppelbock' from back in the day and still wish it was produced. A (used to be) great example of the style from the US and was a fine offering back when Boston Beer Co. was more beer-centric and actually produced great seasonal beers...but, with some German imports still available (and Celebrator is still the gold standard for me) plus some nice doppelbocks that US craft brewers occasionally still release, I'm still a happy doppelbock drinker when the mood strikes...
