I do have enough money to spend that much on beer a week but I'm also not saving enough money because of it. I drive a 1994 silverado 100 miles a day five times a week and I would like to replace it but if I keep spending as much as I do on beer I will not be able to afford a car payment. I consume about a case (24 16oz beers) a week so if I can replace 12 of those with a cheap 12 pack of a decent beer It will save me close to 50 bucks a week. I guess I could cut back on my drinking but I really don't want to do that right now.
I'm not sure that buying expensive beer means one is knowledable about cheap beer (does a Lamborghini owner know if a Kia or Hyundai is the better choice for his kid?) but the way I read the OP, he's looking for a particular brand, not asking for recs...
Yes my main concern was did schlitz get discontinued. I definitely don't mind recommendations on replacements if schlitz is definitely gone in my area. Last time I bought a 12 pack of schlitz was back in 2019.
From my limited Texas experience, it would seem like Yuengling's main barrier would be that Shiner Bock was already filing the market segment they normally fit into.
So I'm apart of a schilling beer enthusiast facebook page and there are a few guys on there that are local that will ship me what I want. I also have a couple of places in Virginia that sometimes get a drop usually one a month.

Yep. Schlitz is such an icon through American beer history that it is really hard to finally just kill it. My Dad drank Schlitz often and it was in the fridge, so I had a "few" here and there. I haven't seen it around here lately either. Time moves along.....Hamm's, Miller, and Blue Ribbon are to me adequate "industrial" choices. This ain't no rocket surgery!
Yeah, the Pabst/Lone Star (snarky) comment was directed at Yuengling's poor showing as of late, not a comment specifically on why they're having trouble. Pabst's Lone Star is brewed in the same MC brewery in Ft. Worth, of course. GBH also covered the competition with Spoetzl's Shiner Bock. But it appears that the Molson Coors Yuengling JV isn't giving up on the second largest beer market in the US:
Yeah, shipping beer adds a good amount of cost. I was in NH at the Schilling brewery last Fall and brought home a case of beer - they definitely brew some tasty traditional lagers. I don't know if you prefer light or dark lagers but I was just driving through Maryland last week and picked up some cans at Cushwa Brewing - their Earthy Riches Czech Dark Lager was very good and only $10 for a 6 pack. Also in the past I have enjoyed Union's Blackwing Schwarzbier which I think was pretty reasonable. Sounds like you are probably closer to VA than PA, but if you are a Schilling fan, if you ever get to the Philly area, but sure to check out Human Robot. How are we this far into the thread and no one has mentioned Natty Boh?!? I mean, I assume the OP is aware of it being from Maryland but I would think that it would be a great, local, affordable beer option to fill in the gaps between $20 4 packs. Otherwise, Genny red eye and Cream Ale are great!

I was at schilling last april and have a tripped planned for this may. I like dark and light lagers and I have had cushwa beers before but never earthy riches. Blackwing was a go to for me until this past year when they switched it to seasonal I bought one case and that was it. I'm closer to va but I have made two trips to human robot this year. I also have been to red oak and old mecklenburg down in north carolina.
I went through a phase were I tried as many aal as possible and seen a 30 pack of stroh's at a local grocery store chain that is now closed down. I have not seen stroh's since and I wish I would have tried it but at the time I did not want to commit to a 30 pack in case it was terrible.
I went through an adjunct lager (AAL) phase in the 70s, but was cured by about 1980. After that I would only drink AAL when at a restaurant or bar with a short beer menu. With the exception of Bohemia Clara/Pilsener (very good!) on a visit to Mexico, I have not bought (or drunk) an AAL in a couple of decades.
...I still like it quite a bit and have initiated a couple of trades just to get it (believe it or not)...and one fine BA (@jkblr) kindly sent a sixer this past August out of the blue...we used to see it in Colorado when I first got here, probably had Schlitz in distro, too, but no longer...
Schlitz Gusto was a mainstay of mine for the relatively short time it was available locally. All this talk aboot Miller High Life in bottles being so good. I don't get it. Shrugs.
