Good morning and Happy St. Patrick's Day BA!

Took a long weekend and this is day 2.

Wanted to break from my typical style of morning beer (lagers) and found this I surprisingly haven't had yet.

Uinta Brewing - Alpenweizen Mountain Berry Rush

Poured into a weizen glass( first time for correct glassware) canned on 2.8.23

Pours a very hazy and opaque pale-tangerine color with a small white head that settles into a ring. 3.75

Aroma smacks you out of the can as soon as you crack the top. Strong sweetened mixed berry and maybe some cidery notes. 4

Taste follows with big mixed fruit, almost candy like akin to fruity pebbles or mixed berry fruit snacks. Light wheat and grainy notes that could be stronger imo. 3.75

Fairly effervescent and prickly carbo body, still kinda reminds me of a seltzer, but with a nice lingering aftertaste. 3.75

Overall, another good fruity beer from Uinta and a good choice for breakfast. 3.75

Apology up front gents, I forgot NBW is typically sat/sun and since I'm off, brain had me thinking it was Sat.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle dated 1/20/22 into a snifter.

Look- Black, opaque, plentiful visible particulate at the edges, dark brown frothy head, zero head retention, below average lacing (but coats glass wall).

Smell- Cacao, coffee, chili pepper, vanilla, high strength of scent.

Taste- Cacao, coffee, chili pepper at finish, moderately bitter, high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, well below average carbonation, mildly spicy, moderately mouth warming, mildly mouth coating, moderately bitter, syrup like.

Overall- Black in color with visible particulate at the edges and zero head retention. Bouquet was high in strength with a great mix of cacao, coffee and chili pepper. Taste was also high in strength with the same wonderful flavor profile. Feel was between medium and full bodied with mild spiciness and moderate mouth warming ability. Overall this was a really great beer that provided an excellent drinking experience. The only critique I had was that the carbonation was noticeably weak, but that could have been a one-off.

Look's Beer No Bolshevik RIS, 11.1% ABV. The canned date and ABV were hand-written on the label. Pours thick and black, with a three-finger medium-brown head that left a cup of foamy lacing. Nose is malt and alcohol. Taste is roasty malt and bitter hops, faintly sweet, quite bitter as a RIS should be. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I'm not a huge fan of highly-bitter beers, but I can appreciate that this is true to style.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Going to be a quiet night at home, settling in with a great RIS, ranch and cream cheese chicken in the crock, and then hours of OnPatrol: Live.

Since it's already started, here's another courtesy of @snaotheus!

    Reuben's - Petite, Pre-Prohibition Lager

    Canned 12.2.22

Poured into a weizen glass at fridge temp

Pours clear golden with a loose soapy head that all but disappears. 4

Strong and very nice malt and barley aroma that deepens as it warms, complimented by a non-artificial rich sweetness. 4

Sharp carbo bite followed by nice malts and sweetness and just a touch of hops. 4

Light, effervescent, sharp and crisp. Really nice beer for drinking experience. 4

Overall a tasty treat that knocks other lagers I've had out of the game completely. 4

Thanks for accidentally kicking things off today, @NorsemanOne . We decided to leave it open since it is a traditional drinking day!

Starting with a 2022 Abraxas Salted Chocolate. Poured from a 750ml bottle at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a small amount of light brown head. The nose is fantastic. The chili comes through immediately. Chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, oak, slight roasted malts, and slight pepper spice.

The taste is intense. Now the salted chocolate comes through big time. Quite a bit, in fact. The chili, cinnamon, and vanilla remain strong. Also getting some maple, toffee, raisins, bread, and slight charred wood. The roasted malts are definitely there. I would not call this sweet at all. Lots of spice and roasty flavors. Some coffee grounds come through as it warms a bit.

Mouthfeel is very creamy, and the aftertaste is a bit of chili and roasted malts. Overall, a really interesting beer. Cheers!

    ...appearance..Holy crap
...light carbonation with a bit of a thin body
...aroma is a peppermint patty with vanilla
...taste is a mint, vanilla Creamsicle. Sweet ,almost candy like which lingers lo g in the mouth
...overall I cant fault execution, its a mint, vanilla smoothie for adults. Would I have another??maybe next st Patrick's day [IMG]

Next new beer is Wee Heavy from Incendiary Brewing. Scottish ale yeast. Malts are 2-row, crystal 80, extra dark crystal, chocolate, and carapils. Aged in Weller bourbon barrels. Comes in at 12.3% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown - teetering on black. Not much head. The nose is insane. Tons of toffee and barrel. Reminds me of Wulver at first. Toffee, figs, prunes, slight vanilla, and a touch of maple.

The taste is amazing. The barrels shine and dominate. Big Weller bourbon notes. Chocolate, toffee, figs, plums, raisins, brown sugar, oak, and bready malts.

The parallels between this and Wulver are striking. This might be up there in my top 3 Scotch style ales (with Backwoods and Wulver). I wish I had more access to this!

Number 3 new one (perks of being new to the beer game)

    Buoy - Italian Pilsner
Thanks again to @snaotheus for a killer package

Poured into a weizen glass at fridge temp.

Pours a pure and golden gold with yet again a looser soapy white head, though this one's retention was much better than the last. 4.25

Strong and heavy malts accompanied by some equally strong earthy hops. 4

Herbal, spicy and malty with some light sweet notes, I suspect from honey. 4

Light and crisp body, everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. 3.75

Overall another winner Pils in my opinion that really shined with it's herbal hops, and strong malt. 4

    Cheers!

    Saison Dupont.

Poured from a 750ml at fridge temp. Pours a nice yellow with a LOT of white fluffy head. Tons of lacing. Bubbles rising throughout. The nose is full of bread, orange, vanilla, biscuits, a ton of yeast, clove.

The taste is excellent. Bread, malts, orange, vanilla, lemon meringue pie, and biscuits. Amazing.

Mouthfeel is fairly light and dry. Aftertaste is fully of malty bread. Great beer.

...hell, I didn't realize NBW started already...a beer from earlier this afternoon:

    Tripping Animals Brewery -- Shegar
    Irish dry stout
ABV: 5.0%; pouring temperature: 48 °F; canning info: CANNED 12/14/22
Source: local purchase (Coaltrain Fine Wine, Craft Beer & Spirits)

    3.79/5 rDev -2.6%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Pours a clear, dark brown color and produces a thick, densely sudsy tan head; decent rings and sheets of foam encircle the glass. Light aroma, but what does come through is dark roasted grains with a slight hint of mocha. The taste has more complexity; more milk chocolate with a touch of caffeine flavor; nice, low-key bitterness adds a bit of depth. Heavy body, smooth and slick on the palate.

A pretty decent, straightforward stout that drinks easily.

Bolero snort they Kilkenny irish ale
    ...cloudy murky dark brown/amber appearance
..medium carbonation that dissipates after awhile with a thin body
...aroma is malt, malty bread, earthy and buckwheat honey
..taste is mild sweetness, malt, dark honey, almost dry and earthy.
...Overall its different just a bit than expected but very good nonetheless [IMG]

While cooking some philly cheese steaks for dinner, poured myself perhaps more than I bargained for.

Bewilder - 2023 Anniversary Ale - Double ESB

16oz can poured into a weizen glass at fridge temp, and letting it warm.

    No canning date.

Pours a nice umber color that turns into a brilliant amber when held up to the sun. Tan head that settles into a ring. 4.25

Aroma is upfront sweet barrel, with some stone fruit, fig, raisin, etc. 4

Taste follows but has more to offer. Gentle alcohol burn (perfectly pleasant imo) with some caramel, raisin, fig, dried plum and lingering sweetness. Really reminds me more of a Barleywine than an ESB. 4.25

Body is warming, but very subtly so. Very slight and soft carbo bite. Moderate to medium filling-ness. 4

Overall after reading a bit about it from the brewery and trying it, I'm going to pick up another or two just for aging. 4.25

Since my fellow Norseman, @NorsemanOne, got us going on the most sacred day of an island we used to pillage, I will join in. This is The 51 Irish Red from Petskull Brewing in Manitowoc, WI. Down the street from where @scream lived. Vibrant dark copper color with a light off-white foam. The smell is roasted nuts, caramel, and brown bread. Quite pleasant. The taste is buttered white toast, toffee, and roasted grain, with light malty sweetness. The mouthfeel is dry, with medium body, and high carbonation. Overall, this is a solid beer. Which tastes better today than any other day of the year. When you visit me for a Green Bay Packers game, if I pick you up at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, WI, we will stop at Central Waters Brewing in Milwaukee first, then we will stop at 3 Sheeps Brewing in Sheboygan, then my house. Petskull Brewing is nice, but they need to step their game up for us to stop there after 3 Sheeps Brewing, since they are located 30 minutes between Sheboygan and my house in Green Bay. Once you get to my house, we will drink whales. On my roof.

Damn, I was so immersed in the March Beer Madness tournament, I didn't realize this was kicked off early this weekend, but there aren't many holidays that can top Saint Patrick's Day.

Haven't missed a NBW/NBS day in quite awhile, but may be trashed after two BA Imperial Stouts today to properly rate one of my new to me tournament beers I were hoping to advance to dual post over the weekend.

Will catch up on the thread and present at least 2 this weekend, perhaps sneak a third in before midnight if I can miraculously recover within 2 hours.

    Cheers!
