So I have a crowler of a BBA stout that has been long forgotten in the back of my fridge for quite a while. I was really excited to overpay for it at the time but just never found the right day to drink 32oz of a triple mash coconut stout.

    Hypermash Hydra. Fill date: 12/28/21

Anyways, can I still drink it? What’s the worse that can happen? What’s the best that can happen?

    Thanks!

Without going into the minutia, the shelf life on a crowler is limited. Throw that bad boy away and rejoice in the fact that you can always buy more.

Won't kill you. Could be flat. Could be epic. Go for it and be sure to report back.

I hate crowlers. Fresh filled is no longer good once I get home.

    Enjoy

As long as it was properly purged and filled, it should be fine. Try it,and if it's off or flat, you can dump it then. Give it a shot.

Worst case scenario is the beer is gross. Best case scenario it's still good. At least taste it before you dump it.

Maybe buy yourself a back up large serving of stout so you don't hear up to enjoy way too much (aka just the right amount) ba stout only to find your crowler is a strain pour

I've kept crowlera around for a fairly extended period of time. Obviously it's probably not getting any better from this point moving forward but if it was a good fill, I doubt there's anything wrong with it. I would pour it up. Cheers.

Worse that could happen is that bacteria was growing in it and you spend the next few days sitting on the toilet wishing you hadn't drank it.

At 13.54% I think you're pretty safe from all but the hardiest bacteria. And it's a BBA Stout. Stouts like to be aged.
Give it a try - it could have mellowed into something better than the original.

It won't kill you (even though you killed it and should probably be punished by having to drink it).

My primary problem with the crowler is that I feel like people tend to think of it as a big can instead of the growler-like vessel that it is.

The only thing worse are 16oz cans filled on crowler crimpers.
At least when you see the crowler, you know what you're getting.

...shouldn't be anything wrong with the beer health-wise...taste-wise, like others have pointed out, being a barrel aged stout, it'll likely be quite palatable...

A friend of mine opened a BA Ten Fidy crowler that was roughly 3 years old...and it actually tasted fine. That's coming from someone who hates most aged beer characteristics, too. I don't think that's typical, but it's definitely possible.
Worst case, you're looking at something that's flat and tastes like bloody port served from a metal cup. It's harmless and some weirdos actually like those flavors.
Best case, it might taste more or less like the beer you hoped it would be.

It really depends more on the process of filling than the seamer or the vessel. Crowler seamers are functionally identical to ones in a canning line, the seams they make (as long as the machine is calibrated) are going to be the same as a canner. If the 16 oz or 32 oz is filled off tap, or with a tube off tap, and then seamed.. it is the same as a growler or crowler and short shelf life. If filled with a sanitary filler, from the bottom, with a properly purged can, you can get the same shelf life and dissolved oxygen levels as a "true" can. That said, 90-something % of crowlers are not going to be filled like that.

Pour it in a glass and proceed with caution...

...at the very least, do it for crazy beer science.

I'd just be cautious. Pour it, smell it n sip it.

I have kept a Maine Lunch crowler for a month and was fine but I wouldn't push it.

I like to drink fills within 7 days.
