Stout time! This is Straight From The Hills from Horus and El Cerrito Liquor. About 250 bottles. An imperial stout aged in a single Blanton's barrel for 25 months! Comes in at 13.9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with zero head. Super thick! The nose is toffee, chocolate, loads of bourbon, tons of vanilla, dark fruit, and a hint of brown sugar. Slight roasted malts and a bit of marshmallow.

The taste is off the charts. Holy crap. I haven't tasted something this smooth in a long time. Huge chocolate, molasses, toffee, black licorice, birthday cake, vanilla, bourbon, toasted coconut, figs, prunes, and slight maple. Definitely get some roasty notes after a few minutes - light coffee and a bit of charred wood. So intense and nicely integrated. Not too sweet at all. The barrel is perfectly integrated, and the ABV is completely hidden. Incredible.

The mouthfeel is super thick and creamy, and the lack of carbonation intensifies everything in a good way. Overall, a wonderful stout.

I have either @Beersnake1 or @2beerdogs to thank for this one, and I apologize for not remembering who sent me this great beer that I am finally getting to.

Bottle Logic Darkstar November Imperial Rye Stout, 2020.

Pours a deep dark brown with light head that dissipates to a thin ring fairly quickly.

Bourbon, wood, chocolate and toasted grains on the nose. The bourbon is strongest by far, but everything plays together.

The sip leads with a rye spiciness, some dry wood, bourbon, brown sugar and cocoa. Slightly sweet, but balanced nicely by the rye spice and the strong barrel. Very good.

Full bodied. Lightly carbonated. Very drinkable for the high ABV.

This is an excellent rye stout that I’d gladly drink again and again. Thanks Tim or Derek!

    FrauGruber Brewing - Nordic Impressions

Triple New England IPA with Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka and Waimea hops, from Germany (9.8%).

Pours a cloudy, golden coloration with a large, wispy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and berry, citrus and tropical notes of white grape, gooseberry, passion fruit and orange.

Taste is a good balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy hops, with berry, citrus and tropical notes of white grape, gooseberry, orange, lime, passion fruit and mango. Finishes with a very light bitterness and booziness, as well as some gooseberry, mango and lime lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a decent TIPA, although it does suffer from some of the typical deficiencies of the style, mainly a certain booziness in the finish that is not too bad, while certainly not feeling too sweet though. When it comes to the hops, they do feel a tad overripe and muddled up as well, although still being pretty vibrant and fairly well-defined. The Nelson Sauvin and Waimea feel very dominant here, with strong berry and citrus notes, as well as bit of tropical character from the Riwaka as well. I do think that this works well as a NZ NEIPA because of those strong berry and citrus notes, hard to believe that there is no Motueka in there.

Brewers notes : Old Rip Medianoche features some of the most sought-after casks we have ever procured for our barrel program –– Old Rip Van Winkle. After resting our flagship Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, Medianoche, for nearly 18 months in freshly-emptied ORVW 10-year bourbon barrels, the resulting blend expresses notes of honey-soaked pecans, freshly split Madagascar vanilla beans, crème pâtissière, dark chocolate cinnamon butter, with just a hint of dried sweet cherries.

Chilled and poured into a stout glass. Pours like motor oil, molasses. Incredibly Thick, very viscous. It is a black hole, it absorbs light , heavy heavy gravity. Thin brown ring

Aroma is dark fruits, raisins, bourbon barrel, tobacco, whisky, figs, cherry

Taste is dark fruits, bourbon, raisins, figs, molasses, cherry, light cinnamon , black licorice, slight char

    Thick, syrupy, viscous, slight fizziness

    Interesting, flavorful, tactile beer

This is a sipper, a sick, thick beer

Central Waters Barleywine Ale - aged two years in bourbon.

Canned 02/22/2023. Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky dark brown with a small amount of head. The nose is intense bourbon, oak, toffee, alcohol, spice, raisins, prunes, and a touch of mint.

The taste is fantastic. Some oak bitterness, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, dark bread, spice, leather, plums. This is right along the lines of a Wulver. Intense barrel character. I'm starting with the 2 year old, and will move along to the 3, 4, and 5. I can only imagine how much the barrel influences those! The aftertaste on this one is booze, raisins, and a touch of leather.

Milk Mustachio from Tractor Brewing. www.GETPLOWED.com -- stay classy, Albuquerque! Visiting my mom for the first time in her newish home, have been running around from brewery to brewery for the last couple afternoons, and built her some garage shelving this morning. Heading home tomorrow evening.

16oz can served in a pint glass. Can seems to be dated BEST BY 06/08/23. Bought it yesterday at Jubilation in Albuquerque.

Pours black with an initially large, thick, light brown head, which settles into a dense, centimeter-thick uneven layer with a sheet of lacing up the side. Appears to be some substantial ongoing carbonation. Smell is dark roast coffee and slightly charred malts.

Taste is moderately sweet and creamy, like a coffee that has been noticeably but not overwhelmingly creamed and sugared. Roastiness is definitely still there, but muted heavily by the creaminess.

Mouthfeel is thick and sweet with a slight airiness to it. Overall, nice stout.

[IMG] I stubbled across this the other day 16% BA Stout. Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 10/31/22. Pours a dark brown with a half finger light brown head that leaves a few streaks of lace with pretty solid retention. 4

Aroma is huge whiskey, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, and coffee grounds. 4

Taste follows whiskey hits immediately, dark chocolate, oaked vanilla, and coffee. 4

Mouthfeel is medium, soft gentle carbonation but a good amount for the ABV, maybe a tad dry, and at 16% huge booze, but still surprisingly approachable. 4

Overall this is a real big stout and I bet this will age extremely well. I still enjoyed fresh, but I bet a year plus and this will be a tad less boozy. 4

Jack have you been to the Pineville Tavern? They are supposed to have an excellent snapper soup - I think it was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri years ago.

High Gravity Brewing Co. (Tulsa ) Falcon OneWest Coast Style IPA, 6.6% ABV; 4.28 overall

Pours an effervescent & not completely bright honey color with a pinky of ivory colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Cattyness, lime, cakeyness once warm, green melon

T: Follows the nose, bready dryness, white grapes, dryness & pine up front. Dryness & lime, plus dankness as this beer warms up, pine as well, just a kiss of caramel. Finishes pretty dry, pretty piney & with more lime & a touch of green melon

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation; good balance

Very good dank/west coast offering, with great drinkability. This a very unsung brewery that usually nails any style they go after

Fields of Rye from Rowley Farmhouse

16oz can served in a shaker pint. Don't see a date on it. Bought it at Jubilation yesterday.

Pours a hazy mahogany with a huge, stiff head. Smell is funky, barnyard, something kind of sweet and sort of fruity.

Taste is interesting. Strange grain profile -- probably the rye, gets a little clearer in the aftertaste. Strange fruitiness is still there, funk is strong.

Mouthfeel is a little on the thick side, but not too crazy. Overall, it's not bad. Not loving it.

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

Home from work now, and my weekend has now begun. Time for a new beer.

Loud Pipes - Bad Habit Brewing - St. Joe, MN - NEIPA - 6.4% ABV

I picked this up at work yesterday. I was surprised how fast the head dissipated in this beer. I maybe should have given it another downgrade on the looks because of it. It does have some pleasing bitterness in the flavor. I do get a faint hint of pine, but this beer is mainly tropical hop flavored. Not bad, and I'm happy I picked it up.

Hazy and murky pouring beer. This beer really looks like pineapple juice in the glass. The head is 1 1/2 finger, white, and frothy looking, but not long lasting at all. There's no lacing on the glass.
Juicy hop aroma. Lots of tropical notes in the aroma. Pineapple is the main aroma. Some grapefruit and mango in the mix as well.
Taste - I get the pineapple and grapefruit in the flavor, and there's a decent amount of those flavors. There's a touch of mango in the mix, that is more up front. There's a very slight pine note on the backside. This beer finishes off with a touch of bitterness.
The body isn't really soft feeling. It does seem slightly light. The feeling of the bitterness does linger in my throat.
    Interesting beer overall.

I'll be back sometime tomorrow for another review or more. See you all down the road.

Rod's Best Bitter from Second Street in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

16oz can served in a shaker pint. Packaged on 02/28. Bought it yesterday at Jubilation.

Pours clear brassy with a medium sized coarse head. A little bit of active carbonation. Smell is nutty oaky, a little toffee, little bit of a juicy character.

Taste is mild, very grain-tea-like, some nutty bitterness and nutty sweetness. Nutty / oaky bitterness doubles down toward the end.

Light, dry, clean feel. Overall, super easy to drink beer.

    Cape may gold
    ...clear pale gold appearance.
...just below average body with at least medium carbonation.
.... aroma is cereal, grain, earthy honey, citrus, citrus ci.es off as lime and lime peel.
....taste has a very, very light sweetness but also comes off almost dry then a bitterness takes over. Definitely grain, cereal and a little bread.
. ...overall it really covers a lot of bases. I think the best compliment is that I could easily drink several of these in a row[IMG]
