Yeah I can understand where people are coming from with it. It just seems to me that regular users of a site like this should be immersed enough in the beer market to realize that there is a massive variety of lagers available today. Why separate out pilsner but not dark/black lager? What about the various bocks?

At the end of the day I know it's just a pet peeve of mine and me being irked isn't going to change anything. I've dealt with the abuse of "adjunct" and the aggressive use of the horribly non specific term "fresh" in regards to unkilned hops for years now, so I'm sure I'll figure out how to deal with this particular lexiconical abomination as well. But it won't stop me from griping in relevant threads from time to time!

To my own comparison -- FW is Ami influenced. Trumer more German influenced.

You can guess my pick. And which one I had this afternoon.

And another this afternoon is convincing me that this is my favorite beer these days -- this is so spot-on German Pils.

I hope to be able to compare Trumer to SN Summerfest this year... but I have a sad feeling I already know which one I'll like better.

Many breweries just don't have the tank space available to "lager" lagers.
They take much longer to reach maturity than most ales thus tying up valuable real estate.
Those tanks can be flipped faster with ales of most styles.
A great brewery will brew both styles well, but some Brewers just can't brew a good lager worth a pee.
    That's just how it goes.
Some breweries are known just for their lagers, or their ales. I don't see them changing things up too much.
I don't think Rogue will ever be a lager brewery.
Have no fear of the craft market getting flooded with lagers Ale folks, but if it did, I wouldn't be the least upset.

True, but . . . . If a brewery isn't brewing near maximum capacity, it could expand its range with lagers and not require additional capacity (unless its beers become big sellers).

Don't get me wrong, I love zany IPAs and double digit barrel-aged stouts but they get old after awhile.

That said, a solidly crafted lager is my go-to for sessioning, picnicing or cooking out. Lagers go great with meals as well.

Plus, you can find one or two solid ones in each style that won't break your bank.

PS: Ironically, I am typing this while drinking a new Treehouse IPA. Don't hate me, I just got back from a trip to Western Mass this weekend

Only sad for the one that wouldn't be preferred, since it seems to be the bastard child.

On Saturday I had the new Zwickel from Roaring Table (IL); an outstanding, well-brewed example.

On Sunday I had a Paulaner Pils (fresh cans at a great price from a local); tasting much better than my first go-round with the brand -- probably me lightening up on my perception, but very tasty German Pils.

Today I had a post-workout Trumer -- just a terrific example of German Pils with delicious herbal hops and malt backbone to-style.

So no, I guess I won't stop going on about lagers for some time when I can find beers like these at easy reach.

April is within sight -- wonder how soon (or late) I'll be seeing Summerfest?

I think Notch did this first in the US (I believe he traveled to that region of France to learn more). I've had a couple of their French Pilsners, one of them last year was gone in a couple days (maybe quicker) on draft.

Wouldn't those then be strength designations and not styles?

Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. :zipper_mouth:
From my perspective, there ain't too many itches that an IPA won't scratch. Lawnmower beer, cookout beer, post-bike ride beer, whatever. I'm always ready for a nice, hoppy IPA. Or an APA. I'm not picky.

I might be persuaded to come to the dark side if we ever got, say, von Trapp stuff around here. Or if it's Oktoberfest season.

    It´s funny.
In Europe ( I´m from Czech Republic) everyone (craft beer comunity) is crazy about IPA, APA, NEIPA, sours..., because they are tired by lagers/pils.

In the US it's the other way around.

For many of us here, it's about new experiences and broadening our knowledge, and I'll guess it's that way for you too. It's all about learning and having fun and being entertained.
