There are multiple threads dedicated to the more popular breweries in New England: Tree House, Notch, Fox Farm, etc. But there are so many other breweries that don’t really fit the “need their own thread” mold.

    So I’m starting this.

I recently went to Backbeat in Beverly and really enjoyed their beer. There were five casks on and I really dug the Burton Bitter. The Bock was also excellent.

Popped into Coastal Mass, too. Not totally my thing, but I can see their appeal. Really nice people too. Beverly could be a fun hang.

Gotta throw it out to Stoneface and Modest Man in our area.

Post and Beam out west was excellent as well.

Down in MA I found Mill 77’s beers to be excellent and a cool staff.

I back Coastal Mass too, which used to be Channel Marker brewing.

We’ve enjoyed old planters as well.

The Brewery at Four Star Farms in Northfield, Mass. it’s a hop farm and they grow some of their own grain as well. Huge outdoor area with Adirondack chairs, picnic tables and food truck. (Within easy striking distance of Brick & Feather, Honest Weight and Tree House-Deerfield for those who know not the meaning of ‘moderation’).

I just rediscovered Stoneface again last summer. I wish it wasn’t so far from me, I’d go more often. It does, however, nicely align with side trips to Tributary and then to Deciduous, Spyglass and Post & Beam on the way home - designated driver stipulated.

Modestman has the unassailable advantage of being the only brewery within walking distance of my house*. But Ash’s shitty hip-hop playlists are so very fucking annoying that I can never manage to stay for more than two or three pints.

*Elm City Brewing totally doesn’t count.

Haha I do enjoy hip hop but whenever I’ve gone Ash had reggae on and that shits in my blood. So I was a happy camper. But I do completely understand what you mean, as it’s in your face loud

I'll have to revisit. We swung by there as we waited for our table for dinner and we were "meh" on it. Nothing bad, but nothing that really inspired me to hurry back.

I know Oxbow in Portland get a lot of love around here, deservedly so. But the Oxbow location in Oxford, ME is such a cool place. Spacious outdoor areas with multiple fire pits, music venue, trails, awesome vibe, and the best pizza around. Definitely an underrated option.

Beverly is awesome. The three breweries you mentioned, not to mention Gentile and The Falconer (a Riverwalk brew pub).

And you're just a two mile walk over the bridge to Salem.

Shout out to the string of breweries out in Amesbury too. Silvaticus, the aforementioned Mill 77, Barewolf, and looks like a brewery coming soon, Outrider.

Looking forward to good weather and free weekends for some urban "beer hiking" - Aeronaut, Remnant, Portico, and Lamplighter CX are basically in a straight line 2 miles long. Or I could swap Lamplighter for Cambridge Brewing Company. I'm not especially interested in Lord Hobo, but if they open their Somerville taproom, one could start there before heading to Aeronaut.

Of course, if the weather's that nice, I might just get to Aeronaut's beer garden and stay there.

The new Spyglass location is very nice. A larger draft list and excellent food.

I find it hard to leave Silvaticus to spend time at Mill 77 or Barewolf. 13 beers on draft at Silvaticus two weeks ago. There's only so much time but maybe I'll have to check out the others in Amesbury.

I've been going to Hot Plate Brewing out here in Pittsfield recently. They really excel at British and Belgian styles, I'm really hoping for a dark mild at some point. It's honestly just nice to have somewhere in town that I can just sit and have a beer.

You can also do the Idle Hands, Nightshift, Bone Up, Short Path, Aeronaut Cannery, Bear Moose brewery hop if really ambitious.

Indeed - great place and good brews. Originally met @SABERG at Four Star Farms which is a great place, and I love the proximity to several other excellent breweries.

The new Spyglass location is mind blowing. There is/was so much pent up demand for Spyglass that I was there last weekend and it was busier than when I was there opening weekend. Thats nice for them, if they had any reservations about such a large expansion then I think they are put to bed. Just keep the quality up and they’ll be in good shape.

This is a good thread, Matt.
Never not gonna stan CBC but if you're going to Lamplighter CX, I'm going to also stan my rehearsal dinner/welcome party spot The Lexington, which has a well curated list that emphasizes local breweries, especially those that are involved in the Northeast Grainshed Alliance (e.g. Amory's Tomb, Kent Falls, Schilling, etc). The food is phenomenal there.

Oh cool, I thought of them as more cocktail-oriented. That sounds fantastic!

    Why not?

They do an adult trick or treating event each fall that's pretty cool. You pair candy with their beers in a flight at each place (including Short Path). This year's included Idle Hands (but they did theirs all weekend, not just one Saturday like the other breweries).

I usually can make it to three, maybe four on that day and then tap out.

And since we're talking walking and drinking...Love Joy is about a mile walk from Lamplighter CX.
