Currently limited to EU; however, Nicky Yardley is looking to export this year

    Conversation touches on
    • Budvar Reserve = Conditioning ≥ 200 days, depending on Adam Brož (more below)
    • Budvar 33 = A more direct comparison to Pilsner Urquell
    • The ceaseless lawsuit & branding nightmares
    • Importance behind the Czech Pour & Carbon Dioxide (North America vs. Czech)
    • Etc.

I'd like to be able to try that one. I wish I could even find czechvar in cans around here.

I'm fascinated by the abv. level for this beer. 7.5%? That seems considerable for a Czech pils/lager.

But, InBev doesn't have anything to do with Czechvar -- maybe they can get their Bürgerbräu brewery to make a Samson reserve?

Count me in. Normal Budvar is tasty, but it's almost always old and the green glass amplifies that problem. These are in brown glass and if I were to see it, I'd have some basic idea of how old it is.

That's what I was thinking. Is this a traditional style for the region? A sort of Czech bock beer? Or is it a novel imperial pils recipe?

Czech beer is organized by color and original gravity. I imagine this beer falls into this category:

speciál – a "special" beer, brewed above 13°

FWIW -- drinking a Czechvar/Budvar Original Lager this afternoon -- "Owned By The Czech Republic" prominently displayed on the can. No mention of AB or InBev.

Czechvar is an exception among imports here, I’m not sure how or why but they’re never old. Disappears from both stores I go to often then restocked, almost always newer bottles. Not sure whose doing something right but they are.

Oh, yeah? Must be a different distributor or better clientele - I seldom see it and lately never see it with what I consider a good enough date to purchase. (Needless to say, never sealed in a case, either, so usually exposed to florescent light, too.) Someone mentioned cans, and sure enough, United States Beverage (can't access their website today) brings 'em in, but I've never seen them.

Those'd be a automatic case purchase for me (w/good date, of course).

Come to Wineworks in Marlton @jesskidden far from my favorite store but every time I’ve check it’s never that old, for an import…especially compared to some. Currently out of stock, I actually checked last week.

I would snag some up without a second thought if it ever came this way.
    Probably more than once.
