It's been a long morning of trying to clear my driveway, got about 6" of heavy snow. Almost finished but my trusty shovel gave up the ghost.

So to mourn my shovel and wait for the snow to melt, let's have a 3 Floyds Zombie Ice:
    Appearance: Clear gold, big head.

Smell: Strong piney and citrus aroma.

Taste: Nice bitterness kick up front, balanced by sweetened grapefruit and then more bitterness. Medium bodied, nice bitter finish.

Overall: A good ol' bitter bomb of a double IPA/double pale ale. I suppose after so many years of breweries aiming for more fruit and softness in their IPAs it stands out from the crowd. Old school tastiness.

[IMG] Poured into a 20 tulip glass canned on 3/29/23. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a finger sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace, with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma is huge fresh tangerine, guava, papaya, mango, and apricot. 4.75

Taste follows tangerine, guava, papaya, mango, and apricot. 5

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8.9% huge flavor but easy drinking. 5

Overall Jumbo Treat is a treat indeed. I am pretty dazzled with this one. 4.75

Back with another Czech dark lager - this one is Zero Gravity - Tmavé.

Pours a clear amber color. Thick, velvety off white head forms on the beer and lingers for quite a while before mostly dissipating. Aroma has notes of dark fruits, bready malts, some spicy rye bread, some spicy grassy hops and a touch of nutty malts.

Taste follows the nose with notes of bready malts, some rye bread, some nutty character and some definite fruitiness. It reminds me a bit of a bock or doppelbock with that rich malty character taking on a touch of fruit. Spicy, grassy hops come through on the back end. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, and easy drinking. Finish trends drier, but is by no means dry. Moderate carbonation.

Overall a very nice Czech dark lager that brings some unique qualities through that fruitiness from the malt. Very enjoyable.

Usual Saturday stuff accomplished. Recycle run, pick up groceries, walk dogs.
My wife thought it was time to start some lighter beers. She came home with a Four Peaks variety pack. This peach ale isn't bad.
The beer is a clear gold color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of sweet fruit and flowers, on the light side.
    Sweet peach taste, more noticeable.
    Light bodied, refreshing.

Next up is a beer from @Haze. This is Fancy Sauce, an "Imperial stout conditioned on maple, bacon, graham cracker, cocoa nibs and marshmallows" from aslin beer co.
Reddish brown on the pour, settling into a deep, deep brown in the glass. Beautiful, active tan colored head with excellent retention. Aroma is quite robust, with maple the dominant smell from afar. Closer inspection still leans heavy on the maple, but adds in some alcohol notes and what I can only assume is the marshmallow.

Taste is also maple heavy, with hints of chocolate and roasted malts. I'm not getting the graham cracker or bacon. Thankfully I like maple, as it is definitely the Grand Marshall of this parade. Feel is nice and thick, with pleasant alcohol warming.

At 10%, I'll likely be enjoying this one for the next hour or two.

    Evening Coffee
6.7 % American porter by Little Log Cabin

Poured from pint can shipped from the brewery, the body is a dark brown with a small light tan head that quickly dissipated. Good lacing throughout the tasting.

Aroma is a pleasant mix of malt and light coffee. Agitating the beer in glass renews the nose and adds a bit of hoppiness.

Taste follow nose as malt is the equal of the coffee flavor. This porter is true to style with a coffee flavor, not a mere coffee bomb. The vanilla beans take the edge off and lactose balances the bit of hoppiness that rises mid-swallow.

Good carbonation and the mouthfeel is nice: soft and luxurious.

An easy drinking porter that hits all the buttons for me.

Deep orange-ish copper colored body, clear; light carbonation; thick head, semi-creamy and sticky. Distinct presence of orange in the nose; light grain and caramel. Light malt flavor with a subtle tea-like tone; rather weak taste overall. Medium body; glassy.

Perhaps the beer needs to warm some before the taste and mouthfeel develop, but those two factors dragged down my overall rating for this beer. The taste, other than the tea-like taste seems rather bland overall, and the mouthfeel just seems so-so.

Brewers notes: Berliner Weisse with Raspberry & Passion Fruit - 4% abv** Presenting a blush, orangey-pink, Daily Serving: Raspberry & Passion Fruit's aroma is mouth-watering as soon as the can is cracked. Deep, juicy red berry, bright, pungent passion fruit, and an underlying jammy character entice each sip. Soft, well-rounded, and medium-bodied, this unique fruit combination plays really well on top of our Daily Serving base.

Hazy raspberry jam, streams of microcarbonation in the murkiness, fizzy rose colored cup quickly fades

Aroma is raspberry, raspberry jam, raspberry sweet tarts

Taste is initially raspberry but instantly changes to passion fruit, sweet tart,

Mouthfeel is like a raspberry passion fruit smoothie , juicy, mouth watering ,

    Good beer, enjoying the red

Goose Island Fill Me Up Buttercup Stout, 6.4% ABV. Pours black with a 4-finger light-brown head that left great foamy lacing. Nose is slight peanut butter and chocolate. Taste follows, slightly sweet, lightly bitter, with not a lot of add-junk flavor. Excellent mouthfeel, overall very good. Not a pastry stout. Inoffensive.

Happy 10th Anniversary @FBarber ! Have a great weekend and let's be careful out there!

Thanks for kicking things off today with your classic beer @AzfromOz !

Also, we are currently celebrating the March Beer Madness Championship Game. If you like / love North Coast Old Rasputin or Bell's Two Hearted, this weekend is your chance to register your vote via picture of either you are enjoying as we crown the First Annual March Beer Madness Champion after a fun three weeks of comradery and world class beers!

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...me-postgame-awards-discussion-april-3.672209/

My selection today is from one of the 68 beers which qualified for the tournament, but was knocked out before the weekend I wished to review. I believe I may have had this before, but I cannot find a review like I have for Delirium Argentum and Red. Also rare time I actually have the correct branded glass ware, no doubt comped for buying the two other Deliriums noted above!

    Huyghe Delirium Tremens

    Can Notes:
16.9 oz (50 cl) can, purchased refrigerated for $6.00 from Beer on the Wall on 3/15/23. Canned 6/2/22 @ 14:27 (Can code L2153)). Belgian Ale, 8.5% ABV. Brewed by Family Brewery Huyghe, 9090 Melle, Belgium. Imported by BBL, Inc., Frederick, Maryland. Serving Temperature 41-45 F. Belgian Family Breweries. Brouwerij Brasserie Huyghe Anno 1654. Elected as best beer in the world!

Appearance: Two separate half can pours into the 25 cl fill line within the Delirium Tremens branded snifter. Crystal clear yellow blonde base, generous flowing carbonation, very generous white creamy head leaves substantial lacing and a rich creamy cover over the base. Looks delicious. 4.75

    Aroma:
Clove yeast leads and is bold and enticing. Banana and apple are what I get, and the whole is well blended. 4.5

    Taste:
Consistent with the aroma, though with the added pleasure of spicey pepper and honey to complement the primary banana flavor and subdued apple and pear. Really enjoying. 4.75

    Mouthfeel:
Alcohol is strong, effects felt about 1/4 of the way in. That said, it is well incorporated with the taste profile, which is very balanced, the strong flavors work well together. Slightly dry, balanced in terms of taste sweetness tempered by a strong hops presence, clean finish. 4.5

    Overall:
This can is 10 months old, but has really held up well over time. The flavors are bold, strong and wonderful, everything comes together well. This is my favorite Delirium among the three I've tried, and one I must keep on the lookout for future purchases. Would really love to try this on draft as well. Superb, World Class offering by Huyghe! 4.75

Now I regret not rating / entering prior to NBW/NBS, this beer deserved to advance. I usually keep my suspected favorite of the two new to me beers on hold for Sunday. Allagash has it's work cut out for them to match this tomorrow, but I know Allagash has it in them to deliver!

Clear, dark brown pour that is nearly opaque in the glass; thick, semi-creamy head, light khaki hue. Mild aroma of dark malts and light chocolate and cocoa. The taste amplifies the chocolate notes of the smell; fairly bold coffee presence; lightly sweet overall offset with modest phenol flavors. Medium body; slick and smooth on the palate.

If I decipher the dating format on the can, this beer was produced sometime in 2021 with a soon approaching 'best by' date coming this May. Assuming this beer is approaching two years of age, it has done well maintaining it's coffee presence. There is just enough sweet chocolate notes to add some complexity to the taste.

Made a quick stop at Whiskey Hill on the way home. First up is Blend Project #7 a blend of barrel aged beers that took home first prize at Goose Island’s Stout Fest this year.

Pitch black, thin mocha colored head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, coffee and bourbon. Taste is coffee, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, roasted malts, and chocolate. Feel is medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Kind of drier on the finish. Nice BA stout.

Next up is BA Bohemian Breakfast.

Pours pitch black with little to no head. Aroma is roasted malt, maple, and tons of coffee. Taste follows the nose with lots of coffee up front then maple and chocolate coming through underneath. Roasted malts, bourbon and oak come through as well. While there is other stuff coming through, coffee is the dominant flavor to the detriment of the other flavors. Feel is light, a bit thin. Moderate carbonation. Smooth and slick. A bit dry on the finish. Solid BA beer.

    Alus Darbnīca Labietis - Sogis

Smoked IPA with pine shoots, from Latvia (5.9%).

Pours a sllightly cloudy, reddish amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of smoked, caramel malt, and bitter, resinous hops, with hints of pine shoots coming through as well.

Taste is a great bakance of smoked, caramel malt and bitter, herbal, resinous, slightly spicy and fruity hops, with light citrus notes of grapefruit, black pepper, licorice, alpine herbs and pine shoots coming through as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some smoked/caramel malt, pine shoots and alpine herbs lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is basically a smoked East Coast IPA with added pine shoots. At first, the smoked malts seemed just a tad overpowering, especially in the nose, but as you keep drinking this, the beer really comes together, with a great balance of malts, hops and pine shoots. The smoked, caramel, rye malts lend charred oak, sweetness and spice to this, while the hops are quite herbal and spicy as well, with hints of citrus and a great resinous quality coming through from the pine shoots.

Overall, this makes for a very interesting and enjoyable drinking experience, with the smoked malts, pine shoots and bitterness working together very well here.
