Crappy weather here today, so I helped my oldest son in his basement most of the day.
Today I have a new to me offering from Alvarium in New Britain CT. The beer was entered in the BA database 14-months ago and I am only the 2nd reviewer.
This a double NEIPA clocking in at 8% even.

Poured from a 16oz can stamped 03/09/23 GREEN OUT WITH YOUR WEEN OUT to a Nonic at fridge temp.
The body pours out opaque light yellow and the white puffy head looks like it could support a coin.
This beer smells of citrus rind volatiles, pine resin and alcohol.
The taste kind of stings. Between the citrus, alcohol effect and a little hop burn it's a real hit to the mouth. Don’t read too much into that, this beer is still enjoyable.
The mouth feel is medium plus. Carbonation is appropriate.
This beer is not bad, but I would like to try it on tap at the brewery some time and see if it is a little less harsh.

Bonus! I asked ChatGPT to edit my review. I promise to never post an AI review and take credit for it. Here is what came back-

The beer was poured from a 16oz can stamped with the intriguing phrase "GREEN OUT WITH YOUR WEEN OUT" into a Nonic glass that had been chilled in the fridge.
The beer has an opaque, light yellow body with a white, puffy head that is so thick it looks like it could hold up a coin.
The aroma of this beer is a combination of citrus rind volatiles, pine resin, and a hint of alcohol.
The flavor of this beer is intense, with a combination of citrus, alcohol, and hop burn that may be overwhelming for some. Despite this, the beer is still enjoyable.
The mouthfeel of this beer is medium plus, with an appropriate level of carbonation.
Overall, this beer is not bad, but I would be interested in trying it on tap at the brewery to see if it is less harsh and has a smoother flavor profile.

Good afternoon, BAs! A few new beers for me to kick off the weekend:

First up is Outer Light's 2023 Hoppy Beerday, their anniversary release that is always a fruited IIPA - in this case, watermelon and kiwi.

It's absolutely excellent. Very low bitterness; neither the kiwi nor the watermelon stand out particularly, but rather blend into the very juicy melange presented to the palate. No alcohol bite.

    4.01 / added to database

No formal review for new beer #2, as it was a fruited cask treatment. That gets you a new entry on Untappd, but that's not how we roll here on BA. This is their best selling WC-style IPA, Subduction, treated with jalapenos, pineapple, and Nerds candy in the cask.

It's excellent! It maintains the hoppy bitterness, but the hop expression is overwhelmed by the jalapenos. No real noticeable heat, but the flavor is an incredibly green and vegetal pepper flavor, the pineapple and nerds adding a slightly sweet, slightly tangy edge. I love chili ales, and while I would have preferred some heat, this is still excellent.

I would give this beer an easy 4.0 overall (using the less complex and unweighted Untappd formula).

New beer #3 is what is still in my glass right now: Abomination's Wandering Into the Fog - Citra.

WITF is an excellent NE-style IIPA brewed with flaked oats and wheat, and they have several varieties based on showcased dry-hopping. In this edition, the Citra certainly adds a nice punch to the aroma, but it doesn't awkwardly stand out from the mix; everything remains an excellent balance of hop notes, both on the nose and the palate. Tasting notes of pine, tangerine, melon, mango, grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple. Fairly low perceived dankness; moderate bitterness.

    Alus Darbnīca Labietis - Ausma

Herb and Spice beer with ginger and mint, from Latvia (5.8%).

Pours a cloudy, deep, reddish amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy, caramel malt and ginger, with hints of red berries and mint as well.

Taste is a great balance of doughy, caramel malt and bitter, herbal, slightly spicy and fruity hops, with light notes of red berries and citrus, as well as strong notes of ginger and mint. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some ginger and mint lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I've had quite a few beers from this brewery now and enjoyed them all thoroughly for their uniqueness and balance. While this one is probably not going to be for everyone, I enjoyed this very much as well, but I am a big fan of herbal beers. While the ginger and mint play the lead role here, there are still hints of the malts and hops poking through, without the herbal additions feeling overdone. The caramel malt sweetness provides a good counterpoint to the ginger spiciness, while the herbal, spicy hops fit right in here.

Clear amber body; moderate carbonation; thick, frothy, white head. Fine aroma of orange and other muted citrus fruits; pine resin; gentle malt sweetness. Nice malt sweetness, almost honey-like; citrus pith; orange marmalade; medium-heavy hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; velvety with a mild abrasiveness on the palate; sticky dryness coats the palate.

A fine imperial-strength American pale ale, this beer delivers the goods.

Happy New Beer Weekend friends!!! A long day thus far, we celebrated our youngest's 4th bday with all his little preschool buddies, then we all tried to rest, now he was taken to his friends birthday while I stay home with the oldest one and hang out...build legos, eat dinner, build circuits, etc. Crappy weather to start the day, gorgeous now, but some nasty storms are supposed to roll through tonight.

I was convinced to buy this six pack by several people's thoughts over in the "remastered boston lager" thread...spoiler I'm glad I did.

Samuel Adams - Boston Lager (American Style Vienna 5%) **yes I made up a style

Light copper in color, mostly clear, a nice slightly off white and very sponge by head; larger bubbles, very good staying power, some splotchy lacing.

Nose is malt driven, but gentle; there is a richness to it with a pleasant bit of toasty quality…hops carry some earthy grass, there is also this aromatic quality present that almost reminds me of cedar, that pleasant woodworking smell.

Taste is a nice balance of toasty malt, an incredibly light touch of malt sweetness, some grain before a nice kick of hops on the finish, lightly peppery in nature.

This beer is nice and light but it is so far from watery/thin, smooth carbonation, noticeable dryness; bitterness borders on moderate, pleasantly balanced; highly drinkable especially considering the hop presence.

This is a good beer; it is uniquely itself and very balanced; normally hops detract from drinkability in my experience, not the case here. I really enjoyed this a lot.

    ----------

Haven’t had Boston Lager in over 10 years I’d bet, I still instantly recognized this as Boston Lager; it has always had this unique hoppiness to it for me. That unique flavor is instantly what I picked up in this remastered beer. I'm 99% sure if I was given this beer blind and never had the remastered I would guess it to be Boston Lager, its flavor is etched into my beer soul.

I would definitely say this beer is highly drinkable, especially considering the nice bit of hop presence; go grab it, if you liked it before I think you’ll still like it now, I did.

    FrauGruber Brewing - Mind Control

New England IPA with Mosaic and Simcoe hops, from Germany (6.5%).

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a large, frothy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus, tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, papaya and mango, as well as some floral accents.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, floral and resinous, earthy hops, with citrus, tropical and lighter berry notes of grapefruit, tangerine, papaya, mango and blueberry, as well as just a hint of potpourri and pine. Finishes with a light bitterness and some grapefruit, papaya and hints of potpourri lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

They must have gotten a particularly floral batch of Mosaic here, as that floral character, reminiscent of potpourri is rather strong here, although there is a good blueberry quality to this as well. I was slightly disappointed at the very light resinous character here though, considering that this contains Mosaic and Simcoe. Overall, this makes for a decent, juicy NEIPA with reasonably well-defined hop characteristics that could be more vibrant though, while it's also just not quite to my personal taste.

Funny I've never had this before. All Troegs 12 packs were on sale (they're generally quite pricey here) so figured it was a good time to try and have a few nugget nectar which I skipped this year.

    Troegs - Sunshine Pilsner

Pour is slow-pour unintentionally because I couldn't find my phone after I'd poured it and I cracked two cans cos I don't like lagers poured in less than 16oz. As a result, big fluffy head. It's nice and soft though, settling into thick pillows. Golden hued, straw colored. Great clarity.

Nose is spicy, floral, malty. Tannins. Very clean smelling.

The natural carbonation here does wonders. This is rounded and full-bodied. Mouthfeel carries the thing. Dry, clean, smidge of malt sugar leading into saaz herbal bitterness. Spice.

Finishes grassy and long (for a pale lager). Snappiness and sharp character carries a long way throughout here.

Great pint from Troegs but why would one expect anything less.

    Badlands Match 2023 DIPA.

Badlands makes a monthly NEIPA where they tweak the recipe, switch up the hops, etc. they tend to be a the better side of good if you like the style.

Pours a turbid, anemic, opaque yellow with moderate head. Thick and creamy appearance.

The nose is both stone fruit and tropical. Slight ethanol note. Dank.

The taste follows fairly closely. More tropical than peachy. The ethanol on the nose is not present on the sip. A little sweet, a little more dank.

    Full bodied, creamy. Enjoyable.

As with most Badlands NEIPAs, this is good, on style and worthy of a try if you find it.

    Cheers!

I may have mentioned before but my moms family is from Farmington and my cousin lives right by Alvarium. I have to go next time I’m there, I brought home Cremo and Cremo Dark last time I was up there, bought at store. They seem to brew a nice variety.

I could see myself enjoying that combination of flavors, especially as you describe them; sounds like a really neat beer.

Poured into an 8oz glass from Mackeys Beer Festival, a clear reddish brown pour and a great big foamy head. Snot factory like the warm baked bread, a bit of dark fruit maybe a bit of toffee, taste is similar. Creamy feel, smooth, nicely carbonated. Not very familiar with the style, so I will have to keep an eye out for these. A truly excellent beer.

Pour a hazy orange with a thick, creamy white head that coats the glass as you enjoy the beer - in other words, the typical Tree House hazy look (which is a beautiful thing).

The nose positively pops with fruity bubblegum aromas - think Bubblicious - as well as mandarin orange and ripe berries. Delightful.

The fruity bubblegum flavor is forward and delicious, with the mandarin orange (almost candied) and berry flavors following, along with some sweet oat flavors.

The mouthfeel is full and pillowy, fitting the beer perfectly. So flavorful and easy drinking all at the same time, this is exceptionally well done, IMHO.
